that is a good cover for a modified figure 4 as well, having that as a substitute for rocks, I think it would be more effective then rocks as you may or may not kill what you intend to kill with the rocks, but pretty sure that will trap somehting for you to come and kill later... Great post.

I was thinking the same thing.
Tomorrow I'll give it a try with some sort of Figure 4.

Well , I made a figure 4 to try on this trap.
It works , but it needed to be a lot bigger than I would have wanted it to be:

Seems like too much of the trigger hanging around OUTSIDE of the trap to get bumped into by the critter.

It gave the added height , but I don't know if it would be worth the trouble of making a figure 4 instead of the original trigger.
They could both be adjusted I suppose.
It was fun trying though. The sun is shining...it's 68 degrees f. It was either play around with this or watch "The Price is Right" Very Happy No brainer there Rolling Eyes

I don't know...what do you folks think?:

I would use the first IMO. Just less bulk & i would think alittle easyer to make. Id stick with the original trigger. Looks good Cliff, i really like that HELLE Knife, i went to there site & checked out prices, they are totaly resonable. Cool

I disagree with the rest of the ppl unlees you dig a small hole (lets say 5 or 6 inches deep) and set the figure 4 up there so the prey must be in the hole to trip the figure 4.. then the basket thing falls down on top... you wont need the extra height to trap bigger prey and so long as the basket is bigger by a few inches then the hole, you got yer critter caught.

Big hole or small hole, either way it would be effective. In some situations only small sticks may be found, and in others only larger. And the reaction time of the critter would be less as Mystick said do to the shorter distance to the ground. The over all trap is really good Cliffn Cool

After staring at that figure 4 for awhile,I decided to try this:

Just as easy to make...EASIER to set up...& still works!!!
Seems a bit more stable too.

Don't know if that trigger has a name yet. I just started cutting away at the fig. 4 & that's what I ended up with.

Those Scandi grind knives are neat!!!
The one in the original post is an Ahti Leuko...the one in the second post is a Kellam puukko & the one in the last post is a Helle Symfoni.
Scaninavian knives have some interesting history behind them, from the simple Mora type blades to the much more extravagant blades like the Helles & Brussletos.
It seems like different countries over there have very different ideas about what a knife should look like. But the common theme is that they all like knives that work.
Sorry about getting off the original topic....I can talk about knives all day long if I get the chance Shocked Very Happy
I wish there was a forum somewhere for that Wink

The way the fig-4 turned out looks good. You may have to post a step by step on what you did to get that result.
I would like to try it. Cheers Cliffn Cool

You can find knife forums by the sackful. Surprised

Just search the net. Or ask Fonly. Smile

As for the trap...cool variation, I must say. There are probably about a billion different ways to trigger it to fall, but either way it is a cool and effective trap. Cool

Let us know what you catch. Very Happy
