Lost is returning to ABC on Wednesday, January 21, 2009. There will be a recap episode at 8:00, followed by the 2 hour season opener from 9:00 to 11:00. CTV apparently has dropped Lost from its regular listings to it's "A Channel".

Here are some links you might find useful. The first one is a good reference tool. It has transcripts of each episode. They are not official, but are very handy to check on what someone said:
http://www.lost-tv.com/transcripts/

This one has a timeline for the show. It tells you when everything happened:
http://lost.cubit.net/timeline.php

This is sort of the ultimate site for Lost fans. It is run by the producers and has a forum with tons of threads on every single aspect of the show. The downside, however, is that there can be too many threads, with too many people posting. The first 24 hours after a new episode has aired can be overwhelming. Check it out, though. Some of the cast will answer fan questions here. Terry O'Quinn and Jorge Garcia are among the most generous with their time. On the home page, click on "The Fuselage: threaded" from the menu on the right to get right to the action. (If you see someone posting there as "BushRat", yes that's me. Don't let the different avatar confuse you!):
http://www.thefuselage.com/

So let's talk about Lost! Who are your favourite characters? Mine are Locke and Hurley. Or should we call him Hugo? Characters I love to hate are Ben ( Twisted Evil awesome!) and Myles, who I didn't like at first, but now I appreciate his snarky comments.

You have no idea how excited I am for next Wednesday, I literally have my whole week planned around it. Very Happy Right now I'm doing a re-watch of all four seasons, I just started season four today, should be done by Wednesday afternoon/Tuesday night most likely.

Favorite character? Locke of course. He's the MAN. I would have gone with him at the split for sure, and no, I wouldn't have been one of the redshirts to bite it during the mercenary raid. It's funny, Dave (my hubby not the one here) and I pretty much figure we would have had an island divorce by that time...he's on Team Jack. LOL

Ben is the man I love to hate too, though I think he's ultimately a good guy (really, he only had the Island's best interest in mind at the end, if he let jealousy over Locke get the best of him for a while). I cannot wait to see the showdown between him and Widmore. Can't wait to see who Sun is trying to kill, how the O6 go back and how Jack and Ben convince them. I've been in mourning over seeing Locke in the coffin and hope that he's not dead dead. It's Lost, so you never know, most dead people don't stay dead on the Island.

I don't think Jack is a very good leader. I see his only function as being the 'man of science' counterbalance to Locke's 'man of faith'.
The show seems to have changed recently. The producers had originally said that everything would have a scientific explanation, that anyone who died would stay dead, etc. But how can there be a scientific explanation for Smokey? Or for the island dissappearing? Or for the island preventing Michael from killing himself in N.Y., among other things? As for the business fo the dead staying dead, we have seen that this just isn't true. Tom was killed on the island and the next thing we know he's alive and well in New York. So I figure there is hope for Locke. If the ones who got off the island have to all go back, then I'm betting they will all go back, including Locke In The Box, who will recover from his death once on the island, just as he recovered from his paralysis on his first visit.
As for Sun, I want to know why, when she told Hurley that no one else was going show up for Jin's memorial, Hurley said "Good".

But there is a mystery that has been bugging me ever since the very first scene of the series. Lost opens with Jack apparently regaining consciousness in a bamboo forest, with a cut on his back. He runs through the forest some distance to the beach where the wrecked jetliner is. How did he get into the forest? He could not have possibly have been thrown from the plane. Being thrown that distance would have killed him; besides, there were too many trees in the way. So how did he get there? And how did he know what direction to go to get to the wreckage? I've posted this question on various Lost forums, and have yet to get a satisfactory answer. The producers have said that everyone is missing a major clue from the pilot episode. Could figuring out how Jack got into the forest provide big time insight into the mystery of the island?

Maybe Christian dragged him away or something. You never know, Christian wasn't in the coffin when Jack found it in the caves, and we know that he's not dead-dead, he was in Jacob's cabin and gave Locke all that information. So...possibly. It's the island, you never know, right?

I always thought Jack was a terrible leader, the only reason he was their leader is because John gave him the push, which incidentally John regretted, especially when they found the hatch and went in. Remember how condescending Jack was to him? I just wanted to push him down the friggen thing.

Wow; that's an interesting theory about Jack's father. I hadn't thought of that. The best I ever came up with was that the Others tried to snatch some children from the plane and Jack went after them to try and save them. But I think all the kids are accounted for, and the Others were too far away from the crash site when the plane went down. Christian is obviously involved in the island's mysteries.................

Claire too, apparently. It's unsure if she's dead or not, since she was in the cabin with him, when Locke went.

I've heard the debate over Jin too, whether or not he survived the freighter explosion, because he survived it when the raft blew up and due to the fact that he's a strong swimmer (you know, fisherman's son and all). I think he's dead, but then, it's Lost, so you never know. I know the actor is still living in Hawaii so who knows.

I don't think the Others took Jack after the crash, if you remember episode one of season three, at the Barracks, when they felt the 'earthquake' from the electromagnetic pulse from Desmond and they saw the plane breaking apart overhead...Ben ordered Ethan to the beach and Goodwin to the tail section. So there's no way that any of them were there, they had no idea that the crash was about to happen...though I think Jacob knew and just hadn't told Ben yet.

I also think that Jacob (or the Island or both) orchestrated it so that certain people were on the plane so that they'd crash on the island: Locke, Claire, Walt, Jack, Hurley...Locke especially as I think he was chosen from when he was a kid.

It's never too late to get into it, Dave. Really, go out and rent it, you'll be hooked. It's a show that makes you really think, it's not just mindless garbage like half the crap out there right now.

Do you often watch radio, Steph? Laughing

Yes, Dave, it's not a show you can tune into now and again and keep up with what's going on. Space Channel ran it from the beginning recently. Maybe someone else will do that and you can start at the beginning. Or, as Steph suggests, rent it. This will be Lost's 2nd last season, and I'm glad they aren't going to just let it go on and on. We need to eventually find out how these people get off the island once and for all, and learn the secrets of the island's mysteries.

I kinda wish i made it through season 4 of lost... it kinda "lost" me (for lack of a better term) where the previous three seasons had me lock'd in. I watch'd all three seasons in order in one and a half weeks this summer.. then stop'd about 5 episodes into season 4. I will defonatly check out season 5 and if it seems good i'l go back and watch s4 again

S4 they changed the format a bit, introduced flash forwards. It took a bit for me to get used to as well, but some big things happen in S4...big things.

Keep in mind too, that was filmed during the writer's strike, so the season got cut short.

Just thought I'd talk about Hurley a bit; he's one of my very favourite characters. I can't help thinking that he plays a crucial role in this, likely without even realizing it himself.
Think about it: A guy hears numbers broadcast from a remote island. He later sits in a mental ward repeating them over and over. Another patient who hears him repeating these numbers plays them in the lottery and wins big time. Thinking the numbers are cursed, he flies to Australia to investigate, and on the way home the plane he's on crashes on the very same island where the other guy heard the numbers broadcast from! If that's a coincidence, it's the great grandmother of all coincidences. I hope they have an explanation for that one. Something else: To solve a mystery, follow the money. Who has money? Hurley has so much money he doesn't know where it's invested. Maybe some of it is financing some kind of interest in the island. He was on the verge of giving it all away because of what he thought was a curse, so maybe he had to be stopped from doing so. And there was a strange comment he made at one point about losing his money if he didn't get off the island. Comments that seem odd have a way of coming back to show lots of meaning behind them.

Well, I have to go now. The season premier is starting soon, and you know what that means:
WE HAVE TO GO BACK!!! WE HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE TV!!! WE NEVER SHOULD HAVE LEFT!!! WE HAVE TO GO BACK!!! Surprised

Well, he did end up giving his money to his parents...

My two cents on the first episode(s):

Oh it was soooooo good. I can't wait to watch it again today, thank goodness for DVR!

I really don't think Locke is dead. Ben not answering Jack when Jack said something along the lines of “why do we need to keep him safe, he’s dead.” and Ben just looking at him, not answering...plus the scene in the butcher shop. Yeah, he's not going to be really dead, maybe not even island dead. I think it's a plan he and Ben hatched together.

I think Kate overacts as far as being a mother to Aaron too. Really, I don't know ANY parent of a toddler who acts like that ALL the time with their kids. Like in the elevator on the way up to see Sun, it was just over the top. It's cheesy, both my husband and I though thought she was portraying it more like a babysitter/aunt than a mom.

Sun...she's so COLD now. For good reasons of course. I love the scene in the airport with her and Widmore. I’ve loved Sun’s evolution on the show from the start, love how she’s turned into this hardass, powerful woman.

Oh, Hurley had the best lines of the show too. The comfort food line to Sayid, classic. It did bug me that Hurley's mom didn't know who Sayid was when he was on her couch, I mean, come on. He's one of the O6 and as if she wouldn't remember any of them, even after 3 years.

I need to rewatch today, hopefully I can fit them both in when my kid is napping. So much to wrap my head around

I thought those 2 hours really flew past. It sure didn't take them long to reveal "where" the island went. I'm wondering when the Black Rock will arrive at the island so we can see how it ended up in the jungle. Or maybe it just arrived: maybe that's where those flaming arrows came from. Speaking of which, I thought that was a clever take on western and war movies where someone gets antsy and declares that he doesn't see any enemy, then wham, he gets it. As soon as I saw that Neil was wearing a red shirt and was getting all worked up, I knew he was going to end up dead.
As for Locke being dead, I never figured he was dead for good, since we have seen other characters die then turn up alive later. Yeah, Steph, Ben's evasiveness served to confirm that. As for Kate being over the top, I chalk it up to the fact that she is not Aaron's real mother. I think she is overcompensating because she desperately wants to turn her life around and wants her friend Claire's child to have a good life.
One of my favourite lines was when Sawyer called that woman from the freighter (can't think of her name just now) "Ginger". Laughing
As Locke said after watching a Dharma orientation film for the first time: "We're going to have to watch that again."
