Easy Stew |
|
This isn't exactly Wilderness Style food because it does include some canned stuff but I planned on making this if I caught a squirrel on my trip but non decided to show themselves.
2 Cans Stewed Tomatoes
1 Can Water
1-2 Squirrels Diced
1-2 Potatoes Diced
1 Cup Flour
1 Garlic Clove
1/2 Onion
1. Take the Squirrel meat (I used Beef cube's since I couldn't get squirrel) and cover it in flower and then brown it in the pan, or billy can
2. Once the meat is brown put in the stewed tomatoes and the water as well as potatoes/garlic/onion all diced/chopped
3. Cook for 1-2 hours on a low fire stirring every 5-10 minutes depending on how hot it's cooking
4. Eat up! It's prett good for something so simple and will fill you up.

I like kitchen sink stew. Fry up some onions and garlic with whatever meat you can find (hamburger, sausages, cicken, or just a lot of leftovers) in some oil, throw in a little of all the "cookable" veggies in the fridge that aren't too rotten, and cook until semi-soft, pitch in rice/peas/beans/lentils/potatoes/all of the above or whatever you have available, add a whole bunc of water, and cook for a while. Add a whole bunch of chipotle powder and a few bullion cubes and cook until it looks good. (usually about 2 hours) Add a whole bunch more chipotle powder so the family doesn't eat it all (It mellows out overnight anyway) and enjoy with stale bread or cracker crumbs or whatever you can scrounge up. I've even made it with wild edibles before and it came out pretty good.
