Grand Fathers mini hatchet

Grande Fathers Mini hatchet.

So, I wanted to see if this little hatchet would be more usful than the BK7 for the things inbetween an axe and small knfie (making fires, procuring supplies for shelter) it weights alittle less, but the weight is behind the edge. I thought it may work well, and in fact it didn't do to bad.

Now, I've become very fond of my BK7, as I think its a great thing to have when you just want a little more than a small knife, but not as much as a large axe. I've split many rounsd of wood, also chopping is not a problem as it has sufficent weight, and a nice thing edge that bits right in, but it also has just that, wight. After digging out my mini hatchet that I got from my grand father, I wanted to see if it would preform any better than the BK7. As it holds sentimental value, I allways want to find new ways to use it.

So this is what I used in the test.

Now after a bit of work with the mini hatchet. I had to baton the back of the hatchet becuase it does have enough weight to split by it's self. After cutting the wood, the head was a bit loose, which would not only be dangerous, but could you imagine in a survival situation this thing flying off? and even if you did find it, you would need to make a new handle. I just dont think its big enough to do this type of work or a regular basis, which you would need in a bad situation.

Then about 10 minutes in I had a nice little pile of wood, ready to be burned up.

Now ready to get the fire going. It took around 3-4 swips to light the lint, and as I had to use the edge, I was pleasntly surprized to not see any damage. I also had some ceder sticks that were split up. Also cut some grass with it as well.

And after some burning. (the wood didnt burn to well as it was actually a bit damp)

Well, there ya go. All in all, its a nice little tool, but. Considering the ability to baton wood better, longer reach, the ability for SD and the comfort,
the BK7 takes it all. The hatchet is nice, but the bk7 takes the lead in every section by alittle more. Another thing I noticed was the mini was really fatiguing on the hand while whittling shavings, this is kinda obvious, but it didnt click until I was actually doing it.

Either way, this little hatchet will allways have a place in my heart, but the BK7 is just plainly more efficent. The only thing I havent tried which I want
to, is that little coil on the Becker through's spraks from a firesteel great. I just need to try and see if the can light tinder with out knocking it and
the shavings all around because of its 7" blade, and awkwardness for finer tasks. (which is why I have a revolver H Wink
