Mountain Shelter

I figured we'd cover some more of season 1 before season 2 and off the grid airs.

So here we go.

Les stays under giant rock for the first night, which is clearly an emergency shelter.

When sleeping on a cold rock, your body heat gets literly sucked from you. Do you think there is anything he could have done to reduce this?

Personally I would put my bag underneath me, unpack it first of course.

And do you think he should have stayed there or kept going?

like you said, putting the bag between you and the gorund woulda made him a little warmer by getting him off the ground. By emptying it he woulda found the survival blanket early'r too and coulda used that as something to keep his heat on him and not get it suck'd threw the rocks. Staying there woulda been brutal. I don't remember there being much fire wood near there and heat near the rocks could cause them to fracture and kill you.

If it were raining, i think i would have stayed, but deffinatly looked through the bag. otherwise i would have kept walking until i got somewhat closer to the treeline.

Depending on the time he had left before sun down, i would have walked down more until i found something better.
Anythings better than sleeping on a Rock ! Shocked

Indeed, i'm surprised Les didnt check his gear, he could have just taken his bag, emptied it, and slept on it if he didnt find anthing. At least that layer would make it more comfortable. Also he could have coverdhimself from the rain

yea that was really wierd he didnt check his bag, i would understand if that was his first adventure (newbie mistake) but that was episode 6 lol. it must of been terrible for him i remember him saying how he had to wake up every 5 mins to move around/get his blood flowing so he wouldnt freeze to death from hypothermia. Shocked

Thats true, and that would be brutal. I've slept on some pretty uncomfortable things, but water soaked rocks is unimagineable

I'm not sure if Les did any rearranging of the rocks near the big one before shooting the scene there but couldn't he have piled up more small ones to at least reduce his wind exposure? Or would he have risked them falling down on him during the night?

Or how about digging up some dirt from nearby and making a marginally softer bedsite to rest on? Suppose that would have depended on whether the ground there had much actual dirt or was just rocks.

I'm not sure what he did exacally becays ehte scene was cut short. However I would agree that would have been the smart thing to do.

i agree with troup, but as for gathering soil to help i doubt he could have given his location. It probably would have been a lot more work then it woulda been to take a few medium sized rocks to make a wind block.

yes they would be much better, but in that situation that option wasn't available for les in this specific episode.

hahah yes, but an emergency shelter is rarely comfortable, as long as it keeps you alive. I guess Les really didnt have many options to begin with. I'm sure he would have made it to the sub alpine territory faster but his camera gear lags him.
