Moose |
|
In the very first episode Les spots a moose coming his way.
Moose are huge, most people dont realize the proportions of this animal, and when its in mating season, its crazy.
Thankfully it was a female.
But what would you do if you saw one? Les just crossed the lake, but he was easily targerable.
Anyone know of methods to scare away or keep away moose?

In the rut (when les stumbled upon a femal) they are very very dangerous, moreso then the rest of the year. They are big, strong, and fast. I don't know any methods of escaping one other then running like hell and try'n to evade it (maby zig zag threw area it cant get threw as nimbly) I'd shoot a moose that was charging me if i had a gun... My cousin got chased and couldn't find any bullets in his pockets so he ran, made it to the road and was ok b/c the moose stop'd chasing him.

he didn't have time to see his life flash before his eyes. One good thing that came outta this was he decided to not use single shot rifles anymore so he sold me his Ruger #1 in .270 win. Sweet single shot rifle!

Depending on the situation, i would just avoid at all cost coming into contact with a Moose.
These things scare me more than bears !. There fast, strong, it would be like haveing a small truck crashing through the bush comeing at you. To say the least, it would be nice to have a change of underware if one chased you & you got away.

haha , very true D.
If you've ever seen a car that got hit by one, you'll understand the power of these things.

If you've ever seen a car that got hit by one, you'll understand the power of these things. |
These photographs correspond to an accident which took place during late-evening darkness on Hwy. 11 near South River, Ontario, in May 2004. Although the driver of the Chevrolet Lumina was aware of the presence of moose in the area and kept a look-out for them with her car's high beams on, she came upon one of the large creatures unexpectedly and was unable to stop in time. The automobile struck the moose, sending the animal tearing through the car's roof and partway out the back window.
Although the moose was killed by collision, the driver escaped relatively unscathed, a broken hand her most serious injury.
The Toronto Sun reported on the accident as follows:
A North Bay-area woman suffered only minor injuries after a bull moose shot through her windshield and out the rear window over the weekend.
"I am extremely lucky and very glad to be here," said Bernice Clayton-Seca, a 53 year-old educational assistant from Sundridge.
Clayton-Seca hit the moose near South River, 50 km south of North Bay, while driving home late Friday night on Hwy. 11 from North Bay.
"I knew moose were in the area, so I had my high beams on, and was looking out for them," she said.
"But at the last minute I saw his legs."
The collision sent the moose ripping through the windshield of the 1999 Chevy Lumina, tearing off the roof of the car, and exiting head and shoulders through the back window.
"My husband was driving behind me so he stopped immediately, and lots of people stopped to help," Clayton-Seca said. "It was wonderful to have all that help."
Clayton-Seca was taken by ambulance to North Bay General hospital for minor injuries, a broken hand, and a few cuts and bruises.
The moose was not so lucky. It died from its injuries.

My cousins husband drives an 18 wheeler. He hit a mosse, wrecked his truck. The moose walk'd 50 yards then fell dead. They are very tuff animals.

Climb a tree.
And pray. Hard.

you better climb an awfully tall tree very fast if one is chasing you then. i'd suggest running downhill if you had to run, big animals have a tuff time with that. Bears can run fast but not downhill, i figure it may be the same for moose.

I'm afraid of moose too.. the only preventative methods I know of is keeping your sense of awareness high, move in the other direction undetected. Sure, they aren't going to stalk you or purposefully hunt you, but if you get in their space and are seen as a threat you better know how to climb.
