Les Stroud returns to Deerhurst Resort May 4 ā€“ 6, 2007, featuring the CD launch of "Les Stroud & The Pikes"
Hot off filming on the sands of the Kalahari Desert, TVā€™s ā€œSurvivormanā€� Les Stroud is back and ready to rock Muskoka. A talented musician in his own right, Les has teamed up with the Saskatoon-born band, The Northern Pikes and is ready to launch their new CD ā€œLes Stroud and The Pikesā€� with an exclusive dinner and concert at Deerhurst Resort on Saturday, May 5th.
Dinner & Concert $59 (Concert only $20). Join Les and The Pikes for a 3-course dinner featuring Chef Goldenā€™s signature Savour Muskoka touches. Stroudā€™s blues and folk tinged roots blend with the electrifying sounds of the Pikes for an canā€™t miss music event.
Le! s will also be doing a special hike with David Arama from the WSC Survival School, one of Les' past instructors. The hike will take place on Saturday from 9:30am - 12:30pm, you'll learn some amazing survival techniques including:
primitive survival shelter construction
fire-building without matches, using flint, flashlight/cell phone and steel wool
learn how to identify edible, medicinal and useful plants
signalling techniques
constructing a survival kit
demo how to start a fire by friction!!!!
direction finding using a watch and shadow stick sundial
As well Les will be hosting the 1st annual Sault College Adventure Challenge.
Get in on the action! Come see Les at Deerhurst Resort May 5-6, 2007 at the 1st annual Sault College Adventure Challenge. This is an adventure race for high school students across Ontario designed as a fun, safe, first step into adventure racing. You donā€™t have to b! e an extreme athlete to participate; it is a fantastic sport t! hat chal lenges your body and mind. Teams of three will hike, bike and paddle in a fun, safe, non-stop 30km race with only a map and compass challenging their limits, teamwork and knowledge of the outdoors. Students will have a blast, make new friends, and learn something about their ability to persevere and succeed. www.saultcollege.ca/adventure/
The race has been designed by internationally acclaimed designer Lawrence Foster (who has also won 2 Eco Challenges) and will be run with over 10 years of safety and experience from Frontier Adventure Racing (FAR). Students will also be given the opportunity to participate in workshops led by Canadaā€™s best adventure racers and elite athletes. That would be great to go check out, but , once again alittle far for me to travel. 
Maybe one day Les will end up down here on the west coast at a special event so i can meet him.
