I don't know how I'm going to explain a $150 purchase from Basegear to my Mom

Face it Bro...you're not going to be able to explain it Laughing

I can just hear it now...
MOM: Flash , what's Basegear???
Flash: Uhhhh,well,they sell stuff.
MOM :Like what???
Flash: Ummmm,just stuff I need.
MOM: Oh...alright then. I just don't want you wasting any money on that
crazy survival stuff. And stay off that forum thing that you look at.
Those people on there are a bad influence on you & they make you
spend too much money on that crazy survival stuff.
You should be concentrating on your classes and not on that crazy
survival stuff.
Just what do you think you'll be needing any crazy survival stuff
for in college anyway.
Flash: ZZZZZZZ....Oh everything is going fine here Mom. Thanks for
asking Laughing

Anyway, thanks for the info on the flashlights.

Laughing Laughing Laughing

Yeah, that's exactly how it would be if we had a conversation about it. Surprised Laughing

I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet. Shocked

I actually added up how much my backpack would be worth if I had my PSK, books, and laptop in it. It came out to over $1,000!! Shocked That's an expensive backpack!!

I'm going to see how much extra room there is in it after it gets here before I buy a bunch of stuff to go in it. Not that I wouldn't want the stuff anyway. Laughing

Anybody want to fund my education??? Wink Laughing

It's the exact same saw.
Probably for less $$$$ too.

Try here if you want the Bahco:

crap!!!I bought a frost 6" carbon steel knife blade a couple weeks ago and it came today, this is a project i've been planning for a while now actually made a handle this summer out of nice little chunk of wood i found, anyway drilled it out after work started tapping it down and split it!!so now my little project has gotten a little more detailed gonna pick up some dowels and cut them into one inch pieces and i found some leather scraps and some brass shims and i'm going to layer it together should look good i think.has anyone done anything like this before I'm not sure how to finish the pommel is the steel soft enough to flatten out to hold the glued layers together?

> Thats a total bummer man........ your idea of useing the brass shims would look good. Ive made 2 knives, one by scratch & one i bought the knife blank from Lee Valley. I used exotic hardwoods, tough to split, but not impossible. Ive never made the pommel before, i made a full one piece wood handle. And the other knife i used 2 pieces of wood & sandwiched them to the tang & pinned them & used 5 minute epoxy. Look in " tutorials " i posted it there Cool

It was in the Craft sub-forum. Smile

http://fourseasonssurv.s3.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=707

We have a three sub-forums that are a lot alike: "Craft", "Tool/Gear/Shelter Tutorials", and "Creation, Projects, Invention".

Sorry for the confusion. Cool

My newest: a Schrade Extreme Survival. I wouldn't normally buy a Schrade, but this was designed by Brian Griffin--aka Mistwalker--from Wild Survive. It was $39.99 + S/H from Smokey Mountain Knife Works.

This is his logo:

The sheath has a removable pouch that will expand to hold a lot of goodies, including mag bars, smaller knives, a Leatherman, etc.

I saw Mistwalkers review of that one over on Bladeforums.
Looks like he did an outstanding job designing it.

Hope it serves you well!

No, not really. My Field Pup has a curved blade and is no trouble at all to sharpen. You just have to have the right stuff to do it. I use a diamond stick first, and polish with a ceramic rod. Then my leather strop is where the real hair-splitting capability is accomplished! Twisted Evil

Sweet blade, Bob. Cool

My son & I ( & even my daughter,Emily!!!) stopped in to see our friend Kendall at Cecil Clark Knife Shop over in Newport Ky.
a few weeks ago
Wasn't really looking to get anything, but Ems eyes lit up when see saw a Byrd folder in the case,so I went ahead & bought it for her.
While I had my wallet out,I decided to pick this one up for myself:

TOPS Overlander-3 5/8" X 3/16" blade-1095 steel at 58 RC-nice linen micarta scales & a good Kydex sheath.

I normally change the V grind on my knives to a convex & decided to do it to this one also.
HUGE difference in cutting ability after changing it to convex Very Happy

This is a good stout little knife. It's about all I've carried since I got it & I'm very happy with it.

Emily likes her Byrd folder alot too Shocked Very Happy
Josh didn't get anything this time Razz

I Like that Smile

I have heard so many storys from both sides of the fence on putting a " convex " edge on a blade.
Ive chatted with knife makers & some say its not needed ?... some say its a better edge ?...
I have that one benchmade that Fonly gave me and it has a convex edge he put on it, it cuts good.
All my other knives are just V-grinds & they cut good as well.
So all ican say tothis is they both cut well. Cool
