Great video Kim.
This is one of the hardest ways to start a fire from scratch.
If you've done it often & are used to the method it is a cool way to make fire. Smile
I did try it twice, maybe 3 times and nothing but hot wood with a bit of smoke Laughing

I have actually tried this one before, but in a kind of cheating way. This is traditional for Samoans and I gave it a shot at a cultural center in Hawaii. I got to smoke and char pretty fast, but no coal. I forget what woods were used, but they were very specific about which was which, so it's quite sensitive to wood choice.

I tried a few time and got really close, but by the time you get the wood hot enough and it's time to go for the drive, you're already wiped out. Laughing

It was really meant for two people to do, in my opinion. However, if you practice long enough, it is obviously possible to do it by yourself. Smile
