Maybe in Canada it was shown for a hour,but here in America on Cartoon Network (even on their site) it is only 30 mins long. Cool

"Survive This' has only been shown in 1/2 hour episodes here in Canada. I agree that 1 hour episodes might be better, but this time you guys Stateside aren't missing anything. Smile

I'm just editing this to comment that in tonight's episode, the final 4 will each be on their own. This means that on average, each one of them will be shown for only 5 or 6 minutes. That's not much. I wonder if they just couldn't sell the series with 1 hour episodes to any network, or if they decided to hold back footage as additional features for a dvd.

In last night's episode, the final four were dropped, separately, into different ecosystems. Each was put into an environment where they had previously not done well. Twisted Evil

As I expected, there was a lot of fast cutting from one to another and we didn't see much of any one teen. They all did fairly well, though it took Jen until after dark to get a fire started. The episode followed them into the next day, but we haven't seen them picked up yet.
Next week is the 1 hour series finale. It's almost over. Crying or Very sad

We will see the final 4 'rescued'. The teens who had previously dropped out will be there - looking very healthy and rested - to welcome back the survivors.
The promo says there will be a "shocking" development regarding one of the final 4. I'm trying to guess what it will be. Likely they will have trouble locating one of the teens and a real search and rescue will have to be launched. My other guess is that one of them will get so into this wilderness survival thing that he/she will not want to return home. They will go to ground and become a recluse like the Mad Trapper. Remember, you heard it here first. Wink

Well, last night's episode was pretty good. It was interesting to see how they worked together once the sexes were separated. Losing the food obviously sucked. Laughing

Another comment on the second last episode of the series, which aired this week north of the border: I said that they generally did fairly well in the individual challenge. Watching some of that episode again, I think I was too generous. Seeing Kareem eating note paper to make his stomach think it was full instead of drinking water was not good. And he admitted to playing patty cake with himself. Surprised

Never mind that in his teens he remembers how to play patty cake - with himself - and turns to it within, what, 24 hours in the bush because he's going stir crazy. He admits he was doing it instead of honing his survival skills or just enjoying nature.

Bushrat, they were all going stir crazy. Jen, as usual, couldn't get through a few hours sans Adam without writing him some kind of note, in this case a video.

The thing is, being stuck in the woods is boring.

Kareem wasn't at his brightest eating note paper, though.

Next Tuesday is the series finale of "Survive This". It will be 1 hour long, and will start earlier. In the Eastern time zone anyways, it has been shown at 7:30, preceded by a repeat of the previous episode. The finale will run from 7:00 to 8:00.

the more I watch the more I like Jen she's great I would deffenly listen to her
hope she makes it. but yea her and adam I think has something going maybe someday get married. Laughing

I learned alot about shelter building like go inside and not see holes in the roof what will I learn next Wednesday. Very Happy

Final Spoilers.

The series finale of "Survive This" aired in my neck of the woods last night. Overall, it was good, though it wasn't until about 20 minutes in that we saw anything resembling new footage. No need to have watched the previous umpteen episodes with all that recapping! The family and friends of the final 4, along with the other original participants, waited in town for the survivors to be located by search and rescue teams and brought back to civilization. We had a glimpse into how the OPP rescue teams operate, but I would have liked a little more detail. The "shocking" development regarding one of the teens was mostly manufactured drama. One by one, Adam, Jen, and Zack were located by their signal fires, and transported to where their families were waiting. But no Kareem. It seems that he had a bit of trouble getting his act together, and didn't get his signal fire going early enough in the day. Apparently, though, they had all been out there for 2 nights and supposedly did not know just when they would be rescued. Kareem eventually did get some smoke going which the chopper crew saw. The producers made the most of his family anxiously waiting for him to return after the other 3 had returned.
I agree with Les that Kareem was in some ways the most impressive survivor. The other 3 had enough previous wilderness experience that they should have been expected to last to the end. But Kareem was a newbie to this sort of thing. And remember, the paramedics had to be called in at one point earlier on when it didn't look to me that he was going to even survive the night.
Overall, a very good series.

Cool Thanks Bushrat.......Seems like there will be another "Survive This" since they are taking application's so will be interesting to see how he tops this one. Cool

I found the finale a bit disappointing, but that's the way it goes when your reality TV is actually reality. Reality isn't always going to give you a nice narrative arc.

Best survivor all round: Adam. The guy keeps on working and working and working.

Runner-up: Kareem. This stuff is a lot harder when you don't know what you're doing. It took guts and drive for him to carry it to the end. Give him credit, he had a signal fire ready to go, although the film editing doesn't give him credit for that.

Too bad there wasn't more insight into how the SAR teams work, etc. Strikes me that, given the audience, you'd be better off showing that and having some educational content with your entertainment than having all this manufactured drama.

In the Questions for Les thread, I asked if he has given any thought to doing a show that shows him training with a SAR unit to show how they train and do missions.

As Les pointed out, up until now, it was just a step or 2 below camping. Time to ramp things up.
Les got the kids up in the middle of the night, gave them a GPS unit, and send them hiking miles through the bush in search of several caches. This took them well into the next day. At each cache they had to choose one of 3 survival aids to take with them. Sometimes they made the best choice. (Such as a mag stick over matches, etc.) Sometimes they made poor choices, (Such as a few bottles of water over purifying tablets. Finally, after hours of tramping around, they arrived at a finishing point. If any of them had watched many reality tv shows, they would have seen where this was going. But their jaws dropped when Les told them that they would not be going back to their camp by the bus. They were going to be put on a nearby floatplane with only the clothes on their backs and whatever they had chosen to take from the caches, and taken to an even more remote location. Twisted Evil

Injuries continue at a rate of one per episode. At this rate, they will be lucky if something serious doesn't happen in the more remote location. I wonder what kind of waivers their folks had to sign.

ok saw this one yesterday I for one would have taken the tablets, they had a choice of a pot to boil it in. I would have taken the fishing kit too, but the tarp and mag stick was a good choice. Cool
