So I was at the gym doing some aerobic machines today, and I though if you'd have generators built into the machines you could help power the building. I didn't do any research, but do any companies make fitness machines that generate electricity? Or are there any gyms that use such technology? I think it would be a great idea.

Well seeing how there is alot of people doing this day after day, that is a good idea Mystick.
Im sure you could set something up so the power people put into cycling & stair master would go into a generator then batterys to store power. Cool

I've seen bikes that you pedal and try to see how many light bulbs you can light up. We've had that at a scout camp once. So that being known I know you can power things with the machines. The bikes and the elipticals turn on a wheel so that wouldn't be too much of a problem putting a generator on them. I suppose you'd need a power inverter to convert the DC power to AC power, then you'd route it to the main breaker box. I'm not sure if that's how solar panels are hooked up. I know that around here the power company pays you for the power generated by the solar panels, I'm pretty sure. Seems like a good idea, and at the price of exercise machines already I don't think they'd have trouble puting power generating equipment in.
