Hey boys, looking good.
I had to post this somewhere...the other day I was leaving the grocery store and sitting at a red light. Some woman bikes in front of me...smoking a cigarette.

Yeah, well, she didn't look like the type who was using her bike to get a work out we'll just say. I kind of rolled my eyes, it was partly amusing and partly...wtf?

I'm starting to get nervous now. I've got only a month to go, and still I'm not very good at pushups. Have any advice to help me? I've been weight lifting and that hasn't seemed to make pushups any easier.

How many can you do at a time? I got at one point to where I could do 20 in less than 20 seconds. But I fell out of my routine and I can barely do 5 before I'm out of breath.
I find it very hard to breathe when I'm doing pushups, for some reason. If it wasn't for that, I could do tons of them. I have strong arms, I just have trouble keeping oxygenated.
When I was starting out, I found a good way to get my arms is shape. Do a pushup, but instead of resting with all the weight on your arms before the next one, shift your weight to your legs. This means pushing away from your hands with your arms(your arms should be completely straight). If it makes sense, your butt should be higher than the rest of your body and most of your weight will be resting on your feet. When you do a pushup, your toes take the lower body weight. After the pushup, when you shift back, the ball of your foot should be taking most of your weight. It makes you look like a trapezoid.
See if this picture helps get across my point:
Read what I said again, and work out in your brain what motion it would take to achieve the second sketch. Imagine clicking with your mouse and grabbing the point in between the legs and back in the first sketch. This will be a pivot point. Move this up and left. This should bring you to the resting postion. Do the same with your body. I find it to be a very comfortable resting position between pushups. After a couple weeks of resting between pushups, you should be able to slowly wean yourself away from it and just do it normally.
Hope that helps.

Has anyone here made some kind of " Im getting into fitness more this year ? "
Staying in shape is a good thing ya know. As always i will be hiking, but i do want to push myself more this year.
Do longer hikes faster, and take on tougher hikes as well.
Also wanting to do longer cycling trips. There is a place here called " The Kettle Valley Railway " and its an old railway thats been not used since 1983 ? i think. And you can cycle it or hike it. Its Looooooong. You can do it in sections or piece by piece.
I would like to do a 100km stretch & set up a tent at the 50km zone, which you can.

I kinda am in that mode too Dave, I'm cutting back on my junkfood addictions, I don't drink pop, and am starting to get some more exercise too.

Everytime i start hiking in the Falll or early spring im a little chilled at first, but you start with a quik step & in about 5 or so minutes you fine. In 20 minutes im opening my jacket & taking off the gloves or hat

Alright, add my name to the "finally getting around to eating better and working out" list. Only took me 3 years
*gorges on strawberries so that gap isn't filled by cookies, peanut butter, or cheese and crackers instead*

Did good on day one. I kept snacks down to a yogurt (fat free with fruit), a handful of in-the-shell roasted peanuts, and fruit. This is torture for about a week and then I'm in the clear more or less with self control. I had a nice walk down on the boardwalk for about 40 minutes. Not much, but it's a start.
Cheese and crackers may be harmless for most, but I have serious problems stopping after a few crackers worth with good cheddar cheese and reduced fat wheat thins.
