This year is the first I went ice fishing. I asked my friends if I could go with them. I got out 2 times with them, but didn't really catch anything to take home. Anybody else ice fish, or have ice fished?

Yes i have Iced fished for about 3 years. I have only caught 2 while doing so.
Im not a pro at it, but i have fun. I am a hard core Fly Fisherman Smile and reel fish as well.
I do like ice fishing, but being on the right lake makes a BIG differance.

To me ice fishing is like sitting on your back porch during deer season and waiting for a deer to walk by. It's all chance. Like Les said in Labrador, "Either the fish are there, or their not." I'd rather be out in a boat fishing structure or even fishing off the bank. Cool

Some people may enjoy it, but I say "Better you than me!" Shocked

Well there's no more ice fishing for the rest of the year. I guess it's more of a social sport, becuase you talk to you friends more than you catch fish. Otherwise I wouldn't want to do it.

Not completely true. If you use a Vexlar system you can just keep punching holes in the ice till you find fish, especially if you are fishing for crappie. An example, my Dad and I have caught our limit 10 times in one winter. In other words, 150 fish.

Only run 2 tip-ups, and we use those for fishing northern. caught probably 15 of those overall in the last 5 years. I think my favorite was that I caught one on a ice fishing POLE Laughing had to pull it up with my hands because the drag on the rod couldnt take it. Run 2 of those in the ice house as well Very Happy So 4 rods in the water at a time. It produces well. Very Happy

Here we can have 3 lines each so we get 4 tip-ups for 2 people, and 2 ice fishing poles. Cool

I have no idea how many we can run here in Minnesota, we just run 4 because we can only fit 2 in the icehouse, and I am the one that gets stuck checking the tipups way over by shore Laughing Crappie fishing is generally right near the middle of our lake, so at -10 and on a 4 wheeler you only want to have to go check so many tipups Laughing
