Your story was on track you just didn't know how. Wink Laughing When you have really bad drivers they accelerate and break fast so they use a lot of extra gas. The old people have it right somewhat when they accelerate slow, and break slow. But most are too slow, and as agreed that's bad. I'm trying to drive better now so I save gas. It's hard because I'm in tight spots at school, and have to floor it to get out of the parking lot sometimes. It doesn't help when I just drive in the city either. Sad

As for driving slowly, the ones going 40 in a 60 zone can cause accidents in some instances. But by a HUGE margin, more accidents are caused by speed and inattention than anything else (just ask a cop). The best thing we could do to reduce our gasoline costs in our current vehicles would be to slow down to the speed limit. "Jack rabbit" starts and stops are really bad for fuel economy as well. Little things can help, but the problem is getting people to adhere to such strategies.

The biggest problem for developing electric vehicles is the efficiency of the batteries that we have at this time. More efficient batteries would make electric cars more practical. As for the energy needs in order to keep them charged, solar power is probably the greenest way to go right now. I've considered getting an estimate on how much it would cost to have my house converted to solar power. I just worry about the durability of solar panels, especially in bad weather (high winds, etc). Anyone have any good information sources on the durability of solar panels?

I think Honda has got the FCX Clarity fuel-cell car ready for sale in the summer in some markets in Southern California (Torrance, Santa Monica, and Irvine). The main drawback is the limited number of places to refuel.

I will be one of the first in line to get a greener car when they become practical. I'm thinking that gas prices will have some of these backyard inventors working overtime to come up with a solution. One thing is certain, the next 5 or 10 years will be REALLY interesting... Shocked

When you're a rock & roll icon and you have a huge gas guzzling Lincoln the size of a condo, how do you keep up your green image? Neil Young is converting his classic land yacht to electric power. Then he's going to enter it in a long distance race for fuel efficient cars.

I like it. Very Happy One reason I'd like an electric is that it would stay way cleaner than a gasoline car. Your motor would be pretty clean all the time. Cool
