In areas where there is lots of squirrels or birds you could use this and bait it with acorns or other natural food source to attract the squirrels.

lol yea i'd expect it to work really well, just make sure that the snare is long enough so the squirrell falls over the log and is hanging there, i doubt another squirrell would run up into the next one with a dead body in it's way.

wire would work best but i'm sure you could rig up something else if you had to. i keep snare wire in my bag all the time anyway so i just assume others do when i post these things...

Here is a great site for a better info on this snare.
http://www.m4040.com/Survival/Skills/Hunting%20and%20Snaring/Snares/Squirrel%20Snare.htm
I think he explains that...
a. Squirrels are lazy creatures and will take a 45 degree angle instead of a 90 gregree angle
b. You should place this on a tree that has Squirrels going to it regularly for nesting or food
c. Squirrels are dumb, and will naturally jump when they feel the noose around there neck thinking there being picked up (so they try and jump and run away) so they will hang themselfs if... the snare is loose around the tree, and you make the snare high enough off the gound so the Squirrel is not touching the ground as the squirrel will eat through the snare.
Hope this is good info, and that site has alot of great info as well.

I'f i try it is anyone gonna flame me for un-necessarily killing the critters... in theory it will work but unless i had to i'd just feel bad. but my rubber arm could be easily twisted so long as ppl wouldn't freak out. I am currently in the correct hunting/trapping season for red squirrels.

I'm going to start hunting in the spring for chipmunks in the spring beieve it or not. Just to test my skills and for another reason. There is an overwhelming amount of them and they are just everywhere now. They get into everything and make nests and destoryed everything. we took the old seats out of the Jeep, wrapped em up and put them in a box. They ripped it all open and devestated the entire thing.
IVE noticed a huge population increase for them in th epast 3 years.

They are everywhere and its becoming a problem becuase its hard to catch them if your not good at trapping. I need to build my trapping skills, thus this is the perfect oppertunity

Troop, I agree they are a major problem. They got into my shed, stripped a 4'x 8' piece of fiberglass insulation clean and just left the paper; chewed the romex electical wire bare (it was hot and the squirrel was still there); and I have a small wood box that holds my chain saw its been around for a long time so the wood is soaked with oil and saw gas but for some reason they chewed about a 3 inch hole through the corner of the box that is open on top and contains nothing but the saw, gas, oil and tools. I couldn't believe it. I am just glad the bare wires didn't start the place on fire.

Simple & easy. Have 3 or 4 of these set up around your camp area & you could have some good meals for several days.

Nothing like a squirrel roasting over a fire.
But seriously, squirrel is good. Just like chicken.

I think "Unca Walt" at the Wild Survive Forum had a how-to. I'm not sure though
