ouch! |

So yesturday i went to chop some wood with a friend of mine about a mile into the woods at a clearing. He was having a bon fire and needed some help. Anyway, after chopping enough wood I was whittling some wood and my hand slipped. My knfe then cut into my left index finger for 2 inches long and about 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep... golded my knfie, put it in my pocket and lok'd at my hand, coated in blood. where was my f.a.k, back home. So i wrapped my shirt around my finger, put my sweater back on, and hiked home. got home and it took about an hour to get the blood to slow down enough to just put some gause and a bandaid on it....changed it today and it was looking ok... few more days and it will be better. This was a good reminder to take my field fak with me from now on. keep it in mind folks!

Oh Man !!! Sorry to hear about that.
Glad it's not worse.
I've been there before quite a few times myself.
Hope it heals well.

Jeez!
I've been there, too. I hate it when I cut myself.
It's happened alot in the past few days.
When I get a cut, I go get the iodine and put a couple drops on it. It burns like fire.
Never had an infection, thank goodness.
Always have your FAK.
Lesson learned for me.

That sucks. At least you aren't on the show Survivor. They're in the jungle, so if they get a cut it's going to get infected. I remember I was sharpening a sickle one time, and I caught the curve of the blade. It dug in pretty deep. That one I could'nt feel. I put alcohol on and scrubbed it and it didn't hurt.

Im gonna pick up some liquid bandaid's tomoow to thorw in the pack for situations like this... according to wikipedia.. The primary ingredient of some brands, including the Band-Aid brand, is a form of cyanoacrylate, better known as "super glue".
This struck me as interesting as i always talk'd about carrying superglue in yer pack for this reason! Keep in mind this would be for minor cuts or when you get the bleeding stop'd enuff for it..

Well any cut is a bad one, but a clean cut is a good cut ? lol. it makes the healing much faster with less scaring.

I do exercise good knife handling, but accident's do happen. The worse injury I've had in the past week was a screwdriver that slipped of the screw and gouged a hole in my finger.
I will be more careful, though.
Cheers.

^ One time when in the garage i was carving & for a second i wasn't 100% focused on the job, & Wham ! my sppon gouge kicked up and i put it in the palm of my hand the blades on carving tools are like strait razers, it went in about 1/8 of a inch. But it was a clean cut, so just a bandage & it healed fine.

WARNING...NASTY SCAR PIC |

If you play with sharp things long enough, you're going to cut yourself sooner or later. Hopefully it will be minor & nothing will be amputated.
We all know the rules, but we all sometimes need a reminder"
I was reminded to not have the edge running in my direction in July '06 & I have NEVER...EVER done it since.

That is very true. The same can be said about wood: if you work with it long enough, you'll get a splinter. No two ways about it.

Yeah, just as soon as you get comfortable with a blade, it bluntly(or should I say sharply) reminds you that you can't be comfortable with a knife. Ever.
Bottom line: be careful, keep the knife sharp(we all know why), and keep the FAK handy.
Sweet scar, Cliff.

Hehe, just 2 weeks ago I was in a hurry and was sharpening a little knife of mine. I slipped and sliced my leg open, 7 stiches later and I'm ok
