I don't see how you would get the impression that in the movie he would drop everything and go live off the land, unless you heard it from someone who didn't know what they were talking about.

Drop everything and start over huh. Well then I have a little story for you.

One of my neighbors by my cabin used to be a shop teacher. He got sick of the twin cities lifestyle and moved north. Because he didnt have power he build his WHOLE HOUSE with his bare hands and old tools, no powertools at all. This also ment no lights. He built everything he has the same way old log cabins were built, notching and stacking logs. He left his whole life behind for what seems to me to be and even more difficult one.

When you have a little woodworking know-how you can build anything that you want. Just from taking shop classes I feel confident that I could design and build a lot of things. Cool

shop classes teach you to use powertools and the like. How would you like to single handedly build a house with nothing but hand tools? A lot of work if you ask me. not to mention its a 2 story house, and he built his sauna too!

yeah that's a lot of work, because I would only build a little shack. Although regular wall framing is really easy. I'm not sure how difficult logs would be. Confused

Logs would be hard because the round shape would be REALLY hard to make airtight unless you put something between them Shocked

It's not that hard if you know what you're doing. Smile

Still would be time consuming though if you had to do it on your own, you gotta admit that.

Anything that takes time...is worth doing. And you get much more satisfaction doing it yourself.
If you have the skill and materials, go for it. Cool I still hope that before i die, i get a chance to build a small Log cabin.
800 sq ft sounds just about right. Cool
