Yeah, they are different, but I'm not sure which is better.
Would you rather be warm or dry?

Dry, wet skin saps heat away from your body faster than dry skin. Thats my opinion at least

Yeah, but the point of a wetsuit is to heat the water on the inside of the suit. Water's a really good insulator. Personally I don't know what suit i'd want.

I would think that letting water into your suit would make it more difficult to float and make it harder on your to survive?

yea that makes sense the water could weigh you down.

also, as the water drops cold at night, it will sap away your body heat from the water directly around you, so the wet suit is better than nothing, but in my opinion, the more dry you are, the longer you will last in a survival situation. Just my thought

But if you heard Les, he said he didn't fasten something properly, and water was getting to his hands. Cold.
Both suits come with a flotation device attached to it, so you won't go under. I've seen an empty survival suit on Deadliest Catch floating by itself. Not to mention the salt water helps you float.
I would pick the warm survival suit because even if you stay completely dry in the gumby suit(however unlikely that may be), the cold can still get to you. I would rather be warm, and pray the Coast Guard comes soon.
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers.

but in the Bering Sea, a wet suit will kill you in minutes. Doesn't matter how fast your body warms the water, it will suck the heat away from you faster. The Gumby Suit is a special survival suit and his gloves weren't put on properly, if they had been, he would have been dry/warm longer. From all the survival things I have seen, you don't want to go in the water ever even if it feels warmer than the air, because it saps away body heat. There was an "I shouldn't be alive" about that now that I think about it

The suit itself heats the water. There is something special about the materials of the suit that warms the water in it.
I'm not trying to get into an argument here, I was just making my point.
Cheers.

The cold water comes in then your body heats that water. Then that water just stays there in the suit, and doesn't get replaced by cold water. Water's a really good insulator. That's how a wetsuit works.

I'm not so sure. I think you are thinking of a diver's wetsuit. This is what the fishermen use.

I understand your point about cold, Brian, so we'll just leave it at that.

Very informative, not very entertaining, I liked it.
