^ That im not totally sure of, i seen a program with Ray Mears & a Native build a birch bark canoe.
They both worked on it dawn till dusk for i think about 7 days ?. Cool

Probably double that if you're a novice too.

I'll bet it smells so good in there too, I've always loved the smell of wood being worked. Someday I'd love to learn how to build furniture. Very Happy

Ya, a novice no doubt would be double ..... or more, i would give myself 30 days if i tryed it Laughing
And i love the guys shop, and working with wood is great, the smell's are like Mmmmmm, wood. Wink
If you look you can see on the wall the guy has root cordage there ready for the stiching. Cool

Yeah, it was a week. Cool

If somebody was going to do it with no experience, I wouldn't expect to see a canoe at the end. Like Ray said, it's not something you can copy out of a book. You have to learn from somebody who has done it before. Smile

I'd love to make one, but alas, there are no birch trees or canoe makers around here. Laughing Sad

I had a woodworking class my freshman year of high school so I built a clock, and a night stand. I really like the night stand. I like knowing that once you have the skills you can build whatever you want. It gives you a great feeling of confidence and pride. Cool

^ Oh ya, creating stuff with your hands with wood or what ever, is a great feeling for sure. Thats why if lost in the woods or surviving & you take a piece of wood & carve a bowl or spoon so you can eat is a great moral builder and gives you hope & determination. Cool

oh now that's a skill I would love to have. I watched Les and his wife make bowls by burning them. Very Happy ^

Very ingenious creations. I've alwas been facinated with the birch bark canoe ever since I saw one on Ray MEars
