Worm trap |
|
Any avid fishermen here's the trap for you. Well it's not really a trap it's just a big flat rock. When I went backpacking last year there was a flat limestone rock in the shade on some damp soil. You just lift it up, take out the worms, wait about an hour and repeat. We got a good bag full of worms. Then I decided to make it into a deadfall trap.

Been doing that for years, great way for the morning catch.
I do more Fly fishing, but my buddy collects worms that way as well, logs work great too.

There are about a bizillion ways to catch worms using this principle. Wet places covered by something=worms. Usually.
Also if you HEAVILY wet down an area of soil you can get worms to come up. They can't breathe, so they come to the surface to get air.
Good job, dude. Enjoy your free bait.
Or if you're Bear Grylls, your appetizer.

In class we're watching this video by Lofty Wiseman. He says you need to keep the somewhere, where they can't eat for 24 hours. After that they'll be purged, and you dry them, grind them, and make soup.

I saw this tip in outdoor life. You drive a stick into the ground a few feet. Next you take your axe or saw and scrape it across the stick to make it vibrate. The vibration is supposed to drive the worms to the surface. Don't know when, but I'll have to try this sometime.
