I rated this a 9 because the scenery was wonderful and he ate some nasty looking fish and then ate some of it like 3 days later which was even worse.

Also he had almost no gear but he did scavenge and find a bunch of stuff on the coastline and try fishing with a net as well as a home made hook. I thought it was priceless, real and funny when he spent like a hour or more on making a hook from glass and then he broke it in 1/2.

Another funny moment that is very real was when he caught his shelter on fire in the middle of the night. He also shows a lot of natural veggies around that you can eat which was interesting.

Things I didn't like... well he had that left over fish right next to his bed for 2 or 3 days which meant that he was exposing himself to a possible animal attack from smelling the fish. Also he cooked the fish right next to his camp which you really shouldn't do in bear territory I would think.

He should have made a smaller more natural hook with the plastic since you can carve it into any shape you want. And I think he should have made it smaller as well (which he himself said).

I would have liked him to build onto his shelter more since he did seem to have some time but who knows since it never got dark really.

To tell you the truth, it was kind of boring. Confused

I still love the show in general, and I think Les is awesome, but this one was kind of....how do I say this?.....weak. Confused Sad

The wild edibles he picked was kind of cool, but he just said the name and chomped. He didn't say where to look for it(open sun, damp places, etc...), or to be careful when picking wild edibles. Smile

The scenery was kind of dull and monotonous. Sad Just rocks, cold water, and smooth logs.

The best part was the fire piston. Very Happy That was cool. Cool

As for the dead fish, well...I probably would have eaten it in that situation, too. But afterwards, it would be tossed far away. Wink

Overall rating : 7

I'm sorry but I could only give this a 7 too.

Pros: He ate a lot, which is rare in these episodes
He showed a lot of differnt kinds of wild edibles

Cons: The orgin of the food/names was not very clear.

Overall it was good but i dont think it was up the the level of the others. I would have dont this differntly, mabey starting on some hill (like paracute there), then walk down to the shore.

Still a good episode, but not AS good as the others, but still WAY better than anything else on TV any day!

I gave this a 7, would have been a 5 if it was anywhere but Alaska. I wish it had been interior Alaska though.

Guys, let me know if you agree with my thoughts here. It's my major gripe on this season.

I find that Les is polishing off the new episodes WAY too much. For example, the dialogue isn't nearly as candid as the first season, and he sounds more authoritative and less friendly/human. I liked season one because it was so raw, each clip didn't have to correspond with the other, it would just cut to Les kneeling in a field, picking a shaggy mane.

"I hope that was a shaggy mane, otherwise I'm in big trouble!"

That's the kind of stuff I miss about the first season. The editing is magnificent though, the production team does a great job. Too bad that Les feels the need to act like a Survival expert rather than a "average guy" like in season one. remember, just my opinion. Cool

You summed it up very well, I agree 100%. These epiosdes are great but are much more like Ray Mears shows.Less personality and more authenticity.

I guess it's the little things that make it great Very Happy

I loved it maybe because he seemed more relaxed in this one and he didn't catch any fish so I rated it a ten maybe because I just loved it. Very Happy

I gave this episode a 7...
I felt he could have done more to catch fish, there were so many there, had he done more time in the kayak i think he could have landed at least 1.
I really ! liked the location alot ! i gave that a 10, i love Alaska, it's my vacation spot that im saving up for.
In all, good episode. Cool im liking the fire piston Smile it's next on my " fire starting " tools.
