FLF9: Day pack

This is my fall-winter-spring-out-for-the-day-or-past-a-meal pack.(if I leave mid-morning and am out past lunch, for example) Very Happy

This pack is designed for a day-long outing with enough equipment to spend an emergency night in the woods without too much discomfort. Cool

CamelBak Ranger Hydration Pack: 100 oz.(3L) water, 1800 cu. in. cargo space

I still have gobs of room even with all my stuff in there. Very Happy

1. Ziploc with bandana, socks, cotton, duck tape, and spare batteries for headlamp
2. waterproof container filled with fatwood
3. small kit with things like mirror, matches, etc.
4. Tupperware that usually holds my lunch, but now it is protecting my stash of trail mix bars(I usually have a couple with me)5. whistle I bought ages ago and paid too much for
6. Princeton Tec Solo Headlamp in its fleece bag
7. homemade cook pot with lid, hanger, and hot chocolate, a can of chicken, a bag of grits, and rice. (I usually don't carry this for weight issues, but I still consider it part of my gear)
8. poncho
9. Magellan eXplorist 500 GPS
10. SOG Field Pup(I'm getting a sheath from Askdamice soon)
11. Brunton Nexus 3 Expedition Compass(with protective bandana)
12. Light My Fire Firesteel w/ heart pine & piece of rope(for tinder)
13. petroleum jelly(firestarter and good for burns or cuts) I impregnated this in the cotton in #1, so the tube isn't in my pack anymore.
14. ye olde' nylon rope
15. Ultimate Survival Wet Fire tinder(8 pk.)
16. & 17. Surefire SC1 spares carrier(holds 6 batteries and extra lamp assembly) & Surefire G2 w/ lanyard (I don't alway carry this because of weight. I have the headlamp anyway)
18. Adventure Medical Kits Heatsheets Bivy sack(worth the $12)
19. plain nylon string
20. bonafide paracord(the real stuff) I have it stored differently than you see here, where it can't get tangled, but is easy to get.
21. bag of said rope tinder(used with fatwood it works great)
22. Adventure Medical Kits Ultralight and Watertight .5 First Aid Kit
23. Leatherman Wave

The full pack weighs a little less than 15 lbs. The 3L's of water weighs 6 1/2 lbs by itself, so that contributes a lot. Water is heavy. If I want to go lighter I might take something out like the headlamp or the cook pot.

I am planning on getting a sleeping bag soon, so I'll be ready for camping in no time. Very Happy

I still have some stuff to add, so I'll keep you guys posted. Cool

ooooOoooo very nice, always exciting to see pics of packs. I migth have to make an up-to-date pic of my entire pack

man you reminded me of the first survivorman episode in the boreal forest, when Les is hiking out. I dont know why but that is my favorite part of that episode and everytime people post pictures of gear i want to get out Smile

The Camelbak? I got it from eBay for $71.39. Cool

This one costs a tad bit more and has a different camo pattern. Smile

It's a pretty good backpack. Really rugged. The straps aren't contoured, but it's not that big of a deal to me.
