Alittle 101 on how to stear & paddle a canoe. One of the first you should learn.

I learned to do that at summer camp. We all had to practice off the side of the dock. It's very useful to know, but still is somewhat challenging.

cool tip, my parents got me a book on canoeing, and I am sure it is in there. Just haven't had the time to read the book yet. Soon though, and maybe I will be able to use it this year camping

Canoeing to me is more than just paddleing around, its a vehicle to enjoy nature on the water.
Ive seen alot on the water that i would have never seen hiking.
For instance, Otter, Loon, Moose ! yes moose at Manning Park. It was very cool. She was about 100 yards away feeding & her young 20' from her. Those are times you never forget.

That's what I want to do, but in a kayak not a canoe. I want to go on a lot of treks, and camp on the shore somewhere. Found a nice 14' one and it has lots of cargo room.

 | | oh I want to go canoing what about seasickness though | the waves don't usually get big enough on a river to really affect you. thats why I love canoing. its so smooth and graceful in a canoe and or kayak. you almost glide on the water. (when you know what your doing).

Wildthing is right. You can't get seasick in a canoe. At a minimum, you would have to be in a much larger watercraft(such as a bass boat) in choppy water. And even then you probably won't get seasick unless you're super-susceptible.
Seasickness usually comes in a very large boat(shrimping boat, for example, or bigger), out in the ocean, in less than 10 ft. swells. Any swells bigger than that, and you'd better be holding on for dear life and forget about your stomach.
But don't worry about it. Just enjoy the ride.

My grandma told me a story of when she was younger she got out in a row boat and got seasick. That would be extremely susceptible right there.

A rowboat is understandable because the bow pitches up and down(like larger boats).
A canoe glides across the water.
