I'm not sure if there's a thread already, but this is the place to let people know some lightweight backpacking tips.

Some things I became aware of is container weight. Are you really going to keep that char cloth in a metal altoids tin? Why not go for a plasic baggy.

One thing I never thought of was water bottle weight. If you're like me you have a few nalgene bottles. How bout switchin over to platapus bags?

Obviously I don't really have that many suggestions right now so lets hear your ultra lightweight backpacking tips. Very Happy

If you have a lot of stuff that you don't want to leave behind but is really heavy, sometimes you can comprimise. Like if you have 100' of rope, cut it in half. Little things like that you can take half of. Obviouly this would not work on everything.(you can't have half a knife Wink ) But you would be surprised how much weight you can cut out if you reduce here, trim there, etc..

There's mine for now. Very Happy

I remove all extra packaging and extra strap length ie:shoulder adjustments ,cut the waste belt as short as possible as well as tie downs strings etc. tags any and all uneeded accessorys . I repackage most everything into ziplock freezer bags just by doing so I've reduced my Kelty pack from just under 7 lbs to 5lbs my total pack weight for 3-7 day trip = under 40 lbs , if I use my down bag I can save another 3 lbs, use my tarp instead of my eureka I can cut 3 more lbs every little thing adds up fast when you have to carry it on your back. Also I try not to carry water unless it's in my belly lol water is very heavy

Nice suggestion. I hadn't even thought about the excess strap on your pack. Cool
