Thanks dave. I shaved down the tread to give a flat mocassin feel... great stalking boots.

Hi, Im new here and pretty new to camping overall. My camping expirence consists of spending a few nights at Fort Wilderness at Disney World Laughing . Anywho I dont have much camping and hiking gear besides a tent lol so I was curious as to what shoes would be good for hiking around florida. Id assume some shoes that are waterproof but besides that Im pretty much clueless as to what to look for.

welcome to the site.

I suggest something that has good support in your ankles, is waterproof, and weather appropriate. I wouldn't want you wearing my Rocky boots in anything above freezing! You would just sweat a ton. But yea, try to find something that is temperature and situation (waterproof/etc) appropriate.

Hey good to see ya found the coolest forum around Laughing Cool Welcome.
I may suggest, being in your location Florida, You could get away with wearing a good trail shoe.
They have many to select from. And they have great soles, vibram etc. Deppending on the trails you hike ?
Like if its rocky, craggy, rut's etc, ankle support is a must. But if its just flat dusty trails a trail shoe might be your answer. Cool Cheers. Schmitty

There are some trails that are pretty flat and there are some that have alot of dips, rocks and fallen trees everywhere. So I would think a pair like Daffys would be good as far as ankle support is concerned because its not huge boots that I would probably never need and not so low that they are like skate shoes.
How would I be able to tell what shoes are for certain tempature? The thickness of the shoe or is there a certain material used for cold and warm climates?

there should be advertised with the shoe the amount of insulation they have.

I don't know if this is bumping and wrong but Here are my boots

Well it's only one. But yeah. I was going to go hiking in them this year (I got them in the winter and used them then) but then I got sick. So maybe next year.

Smart thing flf9, breaking in new boots is a good thing. Nothing worse than going hiking and having a crappy time cause your feet hurt & blister. When i get new boots, i as well wlak arounf the house for acouple of days then wear them to the Mall for a bit, go food shopping etc before i take to the hills. Cool

Yeah, it took a while to find the right pair. Cool

Most of them rubbed really bad, and that is a big NO-NO. Shocked

These don't rub at all, but I'm trying to loosen them up a little before I go hiking. Very Happy

Arrow When you decide on a pair of boots, walk around the store in them for several minutes before buying them. Sometimes boots will feel okay for the first 3 or 4 minutes, but then some rubbing or something will start to become apparent.

^Yes, that is very important. If it doesn't feel right don't buy it. Smile

How do you like your pair? Ive got the same pair and they work pretty well. I walked around in some water for acouple hours in them and my feet were dry from water but wet with sweat lol. I put on a waterproofing spray on them too and I think that helped them out also.

Yeah, it's the same with mine. They're sealed really well, so water can't get in, but at the same time sweat can't evaporate. They are surprisingly warm to have no insulation. The sweat isn't a problem if you stop and take a break every few hours or so and air out. Smile

I love 'em. Cool

I don't care about sweat, because my feet sweat in regular shoes anyway. Just have to change your socks before you go to bed, if you're staying outside. Cool

Yeah I was worried about them sense they were so cheap but Im glad I got them. If you bring another pair of socks that also helps with the other ones drying out. I to was surprised to see how well my feet stayed warm in them.

Yeah, you'd think no insulation=cold feet, but that's not the case. Cool

And even though they didn't cost much, I consider them high quality. Very Happy
