Nice.
What'd you waste $6 for? You can get it for free by the armloads in the woods.

Cut down a pine tree, chop into splinters = fatwood.

Really? Do they still have the same burning properties? Like I hear the fatwood burns very bright, will this be the same with the pine?

Ya course that but regular pine dosent burn bright at all though.
Old stumps are nice though

Fatwood that you buy comes from the stumps of freshly cut pine trees.
www.fatwood.com
NH, burning pine - just plain ol' pine branches, logs, etc...it pops, smokes, and stinks. Fatwood is different. It's the resin that is key.
Heart pine is even better. It's like the skeleton of a dead, old pine tree. It is really hard & compact and when you shave off curls it burns just like fatwood.
I have a stick of it on my string that holds my flint.

I cut a pine that looked like it was dead for some time & it was just pitchy pine wood. But because of all the sap/pitch in pine trees those trees do burn easy & hot & fast.

something really cool I learned is that if you find dead branches on heavily resinous trees and cut them at their base, there is usually a load of hardened pitch there and you can light the end in a fire and it will burn for hours like a torch

Ya brian, while on a hike i came across an old downed pine tree, just a small one. And i cut a branch off close to the main tree. And it did smell like turpentine. I did keep about 10" of it & took it home. I split it & set fire to it, it did burn good. But nuttin like a piece thats from a 10 year old stump from a forested area

Heart pine stumps are best.
That's where I get mine from.
BTW, what is on the main page for www.fatwood.com? I can't seem to get it to pull up.
