> The Hurcules Hacker <

Thats the name i have given my first scratch built knife. Its not great steel, so i call knifes like this " Hackers "
I used a piece of flat bar steel, type ? i dont know. I heated it, cooled it in water & heated it and let it air cool.
Is this right for this type of steel ? i dont know cause i dont know the type of steel. But it does hold an edge.
It will cut you but it doesn't hold it that good. Its easy to bring back the edge though,so, thats alright.
I used " Jarrah " wood for the handle, its hard and looks cool. I used stainless pins also to hold it fast to the steel. I used 30 minute apoxy as well. I sanded it, didn't fuss much, cause its a hacker. I used a scroll saw with a steel cutting blades to cut out the shape. It took about an hour, it took 2 blades to finish it.
If anything, this is a good camp knife for all the jobs you do NOT want to use your fine blades on.
Every Bushman needs a Hacker Twisted Evil

wow dave your talented, thats pretty cool, looks like a real knife!

Whether it works or not, who cares, you made and knife and thats impressive.

However if you want to improve your skills in knife making I suggest talked to a blacksmith, I dont rmember who it was from this forum who talked with one and got a few lessons but I bet its worth it.

Good job Dave, thats realyl cool!

Thanks Troop, it is a real knife Laughing ....
I know what your saying though, its not a D2 steel sweet mother &%$#@!* Knife ! lol.
But it will do camp jobs & things like if you were wanting spruce roots for cordage, this is the knife you can dig in the dirt & who cares kind'a knife. Cool
I am looking into finding someone around here to help me out with blacksmithing & metal work.
Cheers Troop.

Also Dave, you seem to be a master at the handles, you should make full tutorials, your handles are actually really nice (and i'm not just saying that to be friendly).

I would look up interenet sites on how to make knives in making a better edge. After reading your post yesterday I surfed the web for techiniques on how to make a good blade. There are some ways shown on the net, and it seems to be differnt with every kind of metal so it is a good idea to look up techniques for your type of metal.

I've had my fair share of those with failed attempts. Confused

Maybe I'll go make a backstop for my bow. Cool

Ok, back on topic.
