Was it worth it? Of course not, but Les did it anyway.
Would you have done it? Personally I would have said, screw it, too cold, even if i'm hungry, i'll eat grass or something (You can eat grass, its edible if you pull it out, the white part can be eaten).

I must say, getting in that cold water would take alot.
And if i was hungry ? i would do it. But !, i would look for more option's at first.
I have never eatin tuber's, & by Les'es reaction they tasted horrible.
But in one of his early'er show's with Discovery channel he said they were not bad ?. So.
That said, knowing they might ? be tasty would push me to go try & get them from a cold, cold lake.
Tuff call, i mean who want's to get into a cold lake in late fall ?, but ! when your hungry !

true hunger can make you do some crazy things, but it was just way to late in the season.
I remmebr les eats some in a soup in Stranded.

Well, If he coulda found some more would soral, he could have put the wood soral in the water, and made the water different tasting, therefore, changing the flavor of the tubers.

Interesting, Tel. You know, I don't think Les has yet to actually cook up a wilderness dish, like adding tubers and sorrel and maybe some squirrel into his thick hat and boiling it up. Or maybe he could toss a few plans together and enjoy a nice salad.
I think it'd be cool to see that.
By the way, I would not have gotten the tuber. Screw going into nearly-frozen water!

Amen. If it was like, summer, I totally would. But fall, when hypothermia is a very real possibility, No way.

you can go like 40 days without food, but you really are risking a lot by attempting to get food in water that could make you go hypothermic. Also where he got sick could have lead to dehydration...

I know this is old, but ya I would like that too. he makes one in stranded by adding leaves and such, but dosent say what kind. It would be nice to know what is effective to add.

This was the first episode I have ever seen and when he ate that tuber I laughed so hard. The expression on his face was funny....not when he got sick mind you. I still laugh at him when he takes that first bite.

hahah me too, it still is the most priceless expression ever.I like how he was eating it and it was fine for liek 3 seconds, then all of a sudden the taste kicks in haha.
Yep, catail roots would have been better, even though tis late in the season, they can still be ok.

I think he went for the pond lillies instead of cattails is because there weren't any available, they grow mostly near running water. In any case, not advisable in cold water..I think he did it mainly for the camera.
