Post Recure Bow Reply with quote
I am looking into getting a recurve bow. Can anyone help me understand what the #'s and letters on them mean? What is a good type? Where is a good place to buy them? Thanks!

Great to see your interested in shooting bow S-kid. Cool
I have some links i will post in here for you. There are many good companys that make great Recurve's.
Bear is one, my friend has one that im going to be buying here soon, before christmas i hope.
Its a Bear- Kodiak hunter. 52" 55lb pull with sites. As far as #'s there is just length - 52", 55", etc.
The lbs are the bows pull weight. 30lbs,50,60, etc.
I have a Ben pearson Longbow. 64" with 45lb pull. If you just target shoot, then 25 to 30 lbs is fine.
But if you want to hunt, then there is a minimum weight you have to use. Here in canada the minimum weight is 45lbs.
I do not know if the US is differant. But a beginer bow weight for target shooting is what you should start with.
You can buy those for pretty cheap. Fiberglass is what there made of. And they start as light as 20lbs.
And ive seen them sold here for about $ 80.00 and they come with 3 arrows and 5 targets to get started.
And of course if you dont go to a range to shoot you got to get a backstop to shot at. Its a safe thing to do.
I will get those links in here later for you. Cheers. Cool

i wouldnt get a 45pound bow, expecially if your not doing hunting. ive shot recurve for about 4 years and have shot the best in my school for two years in a row. I use a colapseable recurve, right now its set for 28 pounds but when i feal i want to add more weight, i just trade in the limbs and bring it up. they are more expencive( collapseable ones, not sure of the real name) but i like the convienence of adding/subtracting weight as i want, and can use a stabelizer. Wooden ones are alot lighter, cheaper, but dont come apart and the draw weight is not changeable(as far as i know) and some done have spots for a stabeliser, and you have to drill holes for a sight on some of them. its really a matter of what you want to do. But i strongly suggest that you dont use over 28 pounds until you get your formation absulutly correct.

well in case just use 4 deep that will hold it. But a back stop is a good thing to get.
