A knife would definitely be a good idea. Smile

Yep, sounds like a good start...

As already mentioned, definitely include a good knife, probably a multi-tool, but just make sure it complies with local and state laws if this is going to be an everyday-carry type kit.

Garbage bag, absolutely a smart idea. I'd take two or three, get them in orange if you can (they can double for rescue spotting/searching purposes).

I'd add 50 feet or so of paracord... always good to have some cordage.

There's a really good thread on search-and-rescue first-aid kits, written by Tfisher (an SAR worker) on the board. You might give this a glance and see if you think of anything you want to add or subtract for your first-aid kit, or maybe any personal health needs you have. Big list but you can pick-and-choose and tailor it to what you need.

Also there's a sticky in the "Situations and First Aid" thread with some good first-aid supplies advice, Daffy's got a good post.

I'd also include something for emergency safe water potability... I carry an emergency drinking straw in my PSK, and we've discussed stuff like these in kit threads here. Then, pretty much your probable immediate primary needs would be covered... water, shelter, fire. Cool

Good start, the most imporant thing is:

Compact - How big is it? exp, I use a LED headlight as opposed to a incondesant becaus eit's mcuh smaller
Light - How heavy is it? If it weigths too much it will be more trouble than help.
Usefullness - How many uses does the item have?
