Fire Piston |
|
Well, gang, I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival.
Les used one of these on the Alaska episode of Season 2. Been wanting one of these for a long time to add to my kit, and Les's episode inspired me to take the 'plunge' (pun intended!)
I decided on the TinderLite pen model.

And some clips for those of us that haven't seen a fire piston work:

They're pretty amazing, and it's simple physics of combustion principles.
I'll write a field report when it arrives.

Those links didn't work for me, anywhere else I might find these things?

Hmm, sorry Derwydd, don't know why the links didn't work for you. I just clicked on them and they were fine.
Turd's given good links too, so I hope those will work for you.

Yep, it is a little steep. But it's one of those little rewards I promise myself after accomplishing something.
Next on my list is saving up for one of those "zero g" fly rods... tried one at Cabela's last month, and it's a sweeeet caster!

I hope in the next few weeks. Jeff, the maker, advised me though that he was backed-up with orders, especially after the Alaskan episode. I'm patient... as long as I can get it before winter sets in.

I would love to see some video of the piston in action once you figure it out. Would be a nice tutorial, and I don't know of any other users that have a piston... so it would be a nice touch to the site. If you have the access that is.

I plan on getting a few 'Scout' pistons. I love the bush (der!!) and love these pipstons I'll get to assemble. A mag glass, piston, and F&S kit would be my bush fire supplies.
Just my 2c.
