Just picked up a tube today, and tried it in my backyard(which I hate because it's a breeding ground for things that bite). First I tried spreading it onto the stick, which worked very well, but the flame died out in about 10sec. Which is still pretty darn good if you've got everything ready. Second I just globbed on a 1inch long blob of the paste onto some bark, and it stayed lit for well over a minute. Great stuff, and the amount of heat it omitted was nuts. Definitely worth using when everything is damp.

I had a friend that had some it works good. He would make i line of it on dry tinder & away it goes.
There is another product Bob. Its called { Ecoflame } fire starting Gel. Can be used indoor as well.
Non Toxic & Earth Freindly. It is made from natural sugar cane alcohol. Cool

Flashlightfreak- I'm pretty sure if this stuff works on damp tinder, it'll work on dry cotton as well. In fact I should try it once I get home.. it should go off like a bomb. Laughing

Dave, I looked up ecoflame gel, and it looks like a candle type canister fuel system. Looks like I'll have to search a bit in the stores, but if I do, I'm going to use that product from now on as an alternative fire starter.

Damn.. U.S. citizens would be damned to have something called "Canadian Tire" over here. It's a shame too.. I guess I'll have to try some other places. I think I saw a Gander Mt. over near a job site where I work. I also want to find a Bass Pro Shop.

That doesn't mean they haven't made it inedible...99% chance that they have added something very unpleasant to the gel..denatorium maybe? Basically it's sterno goo with ethanol instead of methanol.

I would suggest going to the camp fuel section in any store & look. That is where this stuff is located. Cool

I found a similar product at a Bed, Bath, and Beyond next to the sternos called Swiss Fire Gel. $7 for a half liter of 95% ethanol gel and available to US members.
