I've wanted one of those lighters for a long time, but they're a little to expensive for my budget.

$60 BUCKS! Exclamation ! That is one pretty sweet light though, but $60 BUCKS! Exclamation !
I've never had any good luck filling butane lighters. The valve always seems to plug. Still it's a pretty nice lighter! But $60 BUCKS! Exclamation !

I don't know. I bought a windproof lighter for $20 a while back and I was very pleased with it. But I screwed up and saw how long I could get the torch to go and warped the lid. Sad I'd love to get my hands on one of those and really play with it for a while.

I just got my new catalogue from S.I.R. today and came across this very same lighter. They are selling it for $85.99 (kinda rediculous) and in the catalogue they are next to "Windmill" lighters that range form $65.99-$85.99 and "Fire One" that sell for $34.99. SURE these sound great, BUT!! for 85.99 you could buy a ton of BIC butane lighters. I think they sell for about a doller each if you buy them in a 5 pack at walmart, maby less. They may not be windproof, but it seems to be the choise of lighter for all the smokers I know and they light their cigarettes in gail force winds!! Just my .02

Zippo also has a multi-purpose lighter that is refillable butane. Not windproof (at least it isn't advertised as windproof) and it retails for $22.99. My questions... If you need a lighter to light in 70-80 MPH winds (112-128 KPH) winds, what exactly are you going to be lighting? any tinder would be blown away and i doubt kindlin would light in these conditions. I supose if you had to light a smoke in a hurricane...

I can understand water proof but as Daffy said Wind proof? Really you can just keep it in your pants. It's protected from the wind there.

The wind-proof part means the lighter will still light in the wind. Wink

Oh... Embarassed ...Yeah I'm still new to this whole survival thing (which you can probably tell). Anyway I think Daffy already took care of that.

I'd seen this lighter before at stores, but just never felt I could justify buying it at the high price.

I've always gone the Daffy route... buy a bunch of cheap Bic butanes. If nothing else works you've at least still got a working striker, for next to no cost.

And Bobosmokey, good to have you aboard! And no sweat about being new to this stuff... we all are to some extent or another, and always will be. Wink
Good to have you with us.

Yeah, if I had the money and nothing better to do than try to light a fire in a hurricane...I'd buy one. Wink
