Woodlore alternative |
|
I have been thinking of getting a new fixed blade knife for a wile now but could not find one with that utilitarian and organic look to it and also a good reputation with a good steel. I came acrost the Ray Mears woodlore knife and I like it. The wood handle the 01 steel the single bevel come together to make a very usefull and attractive knife. But even if I hade the 250 euros (thats 340 US dollors to me) I would not want to spent that much on a knife. I am only 17 and I cannot get a job cause I live far out of town and I have no transportation so convincing my parents to lend me 340 dollors for a knife would be an imposible task.
So is there an alturnative to this knife that cost less but has the same qualities? I looked on ebay but they seem to cost more there than any where else.
Thanks
Mikael

Hey Mike, great knife but yes, alittle much $$.
As far as a alternitive to it ? there are so many that will come close but ive seen anything just like Rays knife.
You may just have to opt for something else that you like. I know what its like to see a knife you love & cant
get it. Cheers And welcome aboard.

I know that feeling too. Why is it so expensive though, it's just a blade with a wooden handle... Is it the steel used that makes it so $$pricey$$? As for an alternate....well not much comes to "my" mind but people like DDave, Fonly, Normark, those are the people that could help you there.

Hey guys.
In this case I recomend A mora style from www.ragweedforge.com. Just scroll down the page and go through them.
Knives like the Fjellkniven From helle.
Even the Brakar or the Safari
Also dont forget, looking around some you can find customs in that style for a third of the price (~$100) Made from 01 carbon stell and probably your style of handle material.

Its only the name, a knife is a knife, the name is what makes it so much more. Thats not to say everything cheaply made, because there are levels of fit and finish, but to knives made the same and one with Ray's name on it is going to sell for a hell of alot more.

Go with a Mora...
For it's cost you won't find a better knife IMHO. But I am also sure Fonly's ones listed will be great.

Nice options Fonly. Didn't see any prices with the Brakar, Safari, Fjellkniven.
Price was a concern with Mike. Cheers.

Yeah, just go to the link for Ragnar's page (yes thats his name) And under "helle" knives you will find those guys. Also check out the other companies. Brusletto knives from Norway, EKA knives from Sweden and Roselli from Finnland.
