Ice Cave, The arctic

Do you think it was a good idea for Les to have stayed in that ice cave in the arctic epsiode?

What would you have done (before you watchted the epsiode).

Would you have stayed? I personally wouldnt have because as a kid i always made tunnels and caves and learend big open caves are the worst thing to stay in because they become wind tunnels and its just as bad as being out in the open. Infact he would be better off outside the cave because it dosnt rain in the arctic.

I would have just dug a hole in the wall of a snow hill, just to block off some of the wind, and sleep on the sled.

If i was tired & cold & seen that already made shelter, i would have chanced it & rested for awhile & to get out of the weather.

Wasn't that ice cave right next to the spiral chasm down into the ice Les warned about going into? I would've been very afraid of falling into that while sleeping.

I don't remember an ice cave. Embarassed

Also you gave me a helluva idea. This thurs i'm finished my semester, so I ahve a huge break. On friday I was going to go my lot but I have some job issue to resolve so I have to stay home. BUT I will make a survivorman marathon, all episodes to celebrate Smile

This isn't the topic that directly pertains to this question but I'll put it here anyways. In the arctic episode he reports that it's 24 below and 32 below in the month of May. Being a amateur meteorologist I questioned this low of a temp. in May, even in the Arctic. I checked and the record low for that Canadian Island is 20 below in Pond Inlet. Did he make a mistake in labeling it Fahrenheit when it was really Celsius? 32 below is quite cold for the time of year where it's daylight most of the 24 hours. Any comments?

You get really tired after walking that kind of distance, if I found that the spot was far enough from that chasm I would have stayed the night. Beats sleeping on the tundra.

I'm pretty sure Les goes by Celsius in this episode, seems more accurate. Who knows, maybe he was just embellishing, though he seems to stick to the truth.

Man wlaking through snow like that is a horrible expeierance. Being Canadian I have seen the worst. Even though our winters are no longer half a year long and htere is very little snow I still remember hwo it used it be. You walk 20 feet and your tired and sweaating. Sweat was always the biggest problem no matter what. having your lower back wet is such a bad feeling. Of course when you slow down it gets cold, relaly cold.
