Mine is of the 19th century literary essayist Henry David Thoreau. His book Walden chronicles his year at Walden pond, where he lived for a year away from civilization. One of the greatest minds.

I thought I recognized him! Laughing Wink

Yep, I remember reading Walden and wishing I could do the same. Very influential book, and he was a brilliant man.

Yep, it's an American classic. I don't think it's necessarily taught or read in schools, probably just referred to. But it really is very good and inspired a lot of modern writers and modern thought.

It's probably a bit to radical and against the grain for the governments liking, unfortunate because it would make a good analysis subject. He wrote a few other books and essays, he addresses the spiritual side of being out there, he was so great at putting the deepest thoughts into words, when you read his work it's a sea of revelations.

turd, yeah that first link is it. It's had countless releases, I own a recently issued hardback copy.

If your looking to read it, there isn't much at all in the survival or bushcraft sense, it's all an account of his thoughts and idealogy of the workings of society, and in depth expressions on the wild, and the satisfaction and purity of living life from your own hands. It was written in the mid 1800's, and the style of writing is hard to understand at first, but once you get a hold of how his mind works it's an invaluable read.

By the way, Les references the book in the opening segment of "Off the Grid".
