<<Handgun Talk>> (pistols, etc.) |
|
Talk away guys, I dont know a lot about guns, in fact i know nothing abouot guns, LOL. But to get this topic started I was wondering, I saw a gun on TV. It was a pistol looking gun with a long handle (clip) and it fired like a machine gun...rapid fire. What was that gun that I saw??

Glock 18?
BTW,
A "clip" feeds the bullets into a "magazine", and the magazine is what goes into the gun.

It was most likely a Glock 18. You can get 33 round magazine for it, but it will take Glock 17/34 mags as well (I used to work at the largest Glock distributor in the US)

They're next to impossible to get. You can get a Glock 17 and grab some 33rd mags, and try to find a sear to put in it (you'll need your class 3 to do that). It's worth the money, if you have alot of extra money laying around. I got to shoot a Glock 17 that was modified to full-auto and I wasn't really impressed. It was fun, but a big waste of ammo.

I completly disagree. The Glock 18 has many buffers in it, that allow you to control your muzzle. And since it's a simple 9mm, it is more or less a sub gun just as much as a machine pistol. Throwing 30 rounds down range at 50 yards it isn't hard to keep them on a human sized torso. Also you will need to apply for a class 1 (2?) license for contruction/modification, and that is all but impossible to get signed off. Even then it must be built as a demo for a police office, or the military, and once it is shot down it must be destroyed. Out of all of the class 3 guns I have shot, I havn't been impressed with any of them. If you want to shoot fast learn to bump a semi and you will get the same effect IMO.

Too much for me, thank ye kindly!
I'll stick with a standard Glock 19C, and a Ruger M-3 Hunter.

The Glock 18 is awesome. Just not very practical.

I dont think id like to shoot a G18, I rather just go with a Uzi, or the Grease Gun. Can anyone tell me why the US went from a .45 to a 9mm?

There are many reasons. The balistics from a .45 and a 9mm at close distance is marginal at best, this also applies to the .40s&w. There is also the fact that 9mm is lighter than .45 so more ammo could be carried (think 30-06 to 5.56) There is also a major issue of training people who have never shot a gun in their life to shoot. The 9mm has less recoil and report than the .45 does, so training would be easier. There is also the whole thing with the 1911. Like the M16 series they are only as reliable as the person who cleans them. If you strip it every night, clean it, lube it, and care for it, it will never let you down. But can we expect our boys and girls to make time to strip their guns down nightly? They already have too much to do. So they went with more reliable guns, like the Glock series, and the H&K series. At the time they were only being made in 9mm and starting production on the .40s&w. There were no .45acp pistols that were any better than the 1911/A1 pistols. But now that we have the H&K USP .45 series, the Glocks, and XDs coming out in .45 and tons of other makers there is a slow trend of .45 coming back. Will it make a full comeback? Who knows, but there sure are a lot more .308 rifles seeing action.....

 | | i choose the 1911 anyday 45. the short magazine keeps up with the glock because of the bigger cal. |
Which Glock? I really want the G21; 13 rounds of .45, long travel slide making mild recoil and "pop" with a nice beefy grip. I love my 1911a1, but I have to tip my hat to a superior weapon. One 9mm hit does a hell of a lot more than a .45 miss.

In October, I took the North Carolina Conceal Carry Permit class to qualify for my permit to carry a concealed firearm. I loved the class! The instructor trains the FBI and the police mainly, but he loves teaching gun safety and personal safety to civilians too.
I was really nervous, but once I started shooting at the target and actually hitting it, I lost all my nervousness and had a lot of fun!
I got my certificate for passing the course, now I have to make an appointment with our sheriff's department to have the background check done. I guess they want to make sure I'm not some psycho chick with a grudge against an ex or something!
Why do I want a permit and why do I suddenly want to carry a gun? Well, I have been doing more hiking on my own and I realized how incredibly vulnerable I really am after a man approached me on one of the trailheads near Stone Mountain. I'm sure he was probably harmless, but I felt very uncomfortable and it scared me.
Another reason I want to own and carry a gun is so I can become familiar with them and slowly work my way up to using a rifle and eventually learning how to hunt. It may take a couple of years to get there, but I'm willing to try! I think it's really important to be able to hunt. I may need that skill one day.
