What trees to use for a fire bow? |
|
I'm going to try to make fire with a fire bow soon... and I'm wondering what trees that I can use around here for firewood.
I will be anywhere from Central to Northeastern Illinois (Chicago area), and Southern Wisconsin, and I'm wondering what trees are native to my area that I could probably find in some woods or something that are legal to cut
We have Willow trees in our backyard but my dad won't let me cut them, he's spent years trying to get them growing
I don't know what trees we normally have around here though.
Also, should I use live wood or dead wood for each part?
Pics would be nice since I'm not familiar with most tree types.

Dead wood. And I've tried willow and poplar, they seamed to work but I didn't get a fire going.

I've used cedar as the bow itself and everything else.
However pine also works good as the spindle, poplar on poplar works good too.

Yea, but can you guys post pics? since I have no idea what most of those plants look like. If I searched for it I probably wouldn't know what plant is right!
