Hey guys, I was shooting some bottle rockets off last night and i began to wonder. Do you guys think they would be any good for signiling? I may put 2-4 in my survival pack.

In my opinion, no, they would not be good. They could sit in that pack for years before you needed them, all while being exposed to wetness. They may not work when you need them the most. Personally I keep a couple of the 40mm parachute flares in my trucks kit for signaling. They shoot up something like 12,000 feet, deploy a 'chute, and burn for about 60 seconds. I also have a couple of the emergency "red" smoke grenades in my truck just in case. The trick to using these things are to only use them when you know someone is looking in the area. It would do no good to deploy them just for the heck of it if no one was around to see it but you. Shocked Mad The smokes I use are the ALS Smokes, and keep two red ones, they retail for about $40, and the 'cute flares also go for about the same. Wink

Hey Guys..

What you need is one of those Mexican South Park bottle rockets !!!

That'll get some attention..

Truthfully though I don't think they would be very good..

Those things don't light half the time and are damaged by moisture...

There are some Pen flare guns that would be of Far more use..

If you want to attract attention in a survival situation a signal fire would be more useful.

As a helicoptor or plane may be only overhead for a few minutes you want something that is quick and effective...

The Swedish Army train using signal fires..

The basically make like a crib of sticks with legs on it,, stacked with green pine branches...

When an approaching aircraft is heardm two people grab the crib which is sitting only a few feet from a constantly burning fire, carry it over and set it ontop of the fire..

The pine branches quickly catch fire and smoke like all get out...

Billowing clouds of White smoke is one of the best signals there are...

You need something you can depend on.. Bottle Rockets although they are fun,, aren't dependable..

Para flares marine of military and Smoke grenades are completely a different story ..
