What is your favorite kind of energy bar? |
|
I used to be a big fan for the powerade bars, but recently have been under the influence of Cliff Bars recommended by my friends.
What do you guys think?

I wanted to store some kind of energy bar into the trunk of my car in case something horrid happened. Do you think cliff bars could stand possibly months to a year in my car w/o fading, or would I have to resort to MRE's?
I've always wanted to try an MRE.

I don't know what the weather is like out in Ga. but here in Az, I don't know if I would risk it. I did eat one in the beginning of last month that had been sitting in my truck for about a year. It tasted the same so they may be alright. I would suggest you keep them in dark cool spot if possible. I personally keep three MREs in my truck at all times. They are suppose to last about five years then begin to loose it's content slowly. Although inside a vehicle where it will constantly get hot, then cool, then hot again I have found that they tend to "go bad" after a few years. They were made to be stored in a building for X amount of years, then either pushed to the front of the lines, or sold off as surplus. I'm sure you've seen at gunshows, or knife shows the true military MRE cases for sale for something like $12 an entree. The only problem with those are unless the seller is a high up official who has stolen a few cases of them, the meals are already past their shelf life. Because of this I like the Sopakco MREs, they are about the same thing, and give you the full effect of the military ones, but they don't give you the cool water heater. I use to be a back up shooter for one of the local national guard shooting teams, and they would always bring out true MRE meals to the shoots, I can't tell the difference between the "civilain" Sopakco, and the real things.

They're not typically for gourmets, Voyager... you've been warned.

I can't stand those things! My dad loves them, and will by boxes and boxes of them for when the two of us go camping or hunting together. After eating one of those I have to drink all my water.

The trick with any kind of energy bar or other emergency ration is to buy something you like the taste of. That way, when you suspect it might be getting towards the end of its useful life, it's not an ordeal to eat it and buy fresh stock.
