I needed a better way to haul my muzzleloading stuff around instead of an M16 mag pouch, and more recent an ice tea jar. This is what I came up with....
The button is a wolf "claw" that had a gouge cut into it, and a piece of real sinew tied around it to hold it to the leather. I felt that was appropriate because I have a facination with them.

yeah I made it. I was going to buy a kit, but I could buy the leather for cheaper than the kit was. So instead I looked over a couple ones that a local guy made and got an idea of what I wanted. Then I bought some old leather that was once over oiled for fairly cheap. I then used a couple sheets of paper to design what I wanted, and then used those as templates to cut the leather out. Once that was done, I soaked it in some water, and punched all my holes because I have to use a sewing awl instead of a machine. I only screwed up a couple times, and unsew a pannel twice. But after I slowed down a bit and thought everything out a couple times it became easy again. I got the look I was going for, and did it all for about $20. I then got creative, and redid my sling from one piece to three pieces that can be adjusted just like the originals could.
This is the only photo I have of the project.
I took the sim card out and none of the rest of the photos were recorded. But this photo was taken after I cut out the leather, and prepierced the leather for sewing.

Thanks! I really like it myself. It's not the flashiest one out there, but it follows the basic guidlines in that it means something to me, and reflects my intrests a bit.

For this one I used an awl. I used a ruler to make sure each hole would be the same distance from the edge, then put the awl on there, and nailed it with a hammer. The awl is just slightly larger than the needle is that I use to sew. Ussually I just eyeball it, and hope for the best, but I really wanted this to turn out as good as possible and to last a long time since I would only have one chance to make it for cheaper than a kit would be. The fringes were mostly just the left over scrap from the cuts I made, so I added them in too. I was suprised that it almost took me the entire day, I was thinking 3-4 hours at the most.

Yeah, that's the only wolf I'll ever get my hands on, but atleast he stays out of trouble.

Leather work is actually not too hard. It's just something you have to practice at, and of course fancier tools make everthing so much easier! But as you can see, just using some basic tools, knife, awl, sewing awl, and ruler you can still get some nice looking items. Thanks for the kind words.
