Making base camp |
|
Here's what I really want to do someday. I want to find a nice area to camp, and then build a permanant shelter. It would just be made of natural materials, but it would be my shelter for whenever I want to get out, kinda like a cabin. I know OGTL tried this, but has anyone ever done this, or plan to do this? I'd spend lots of time in mine, probably lash a frame and make something that lasts.

Yup. In the next year or so I plan to buy some "man acres" that border on State land so I have a place for my 18th century outdoor shenanigans.
Probably set up something like this:

I'd like to do the same thing too, Mystik. But I don't know if I'll ever have any time to do it.
Maybe I'll come help Mario finish his.

Some hidden little gem sitting out where nobody ever goes. That's what I hope to find when I decide to make one. I'd have to have mine somewhere near a water source so I can stay there for longer times.

I plan on making one sometime this summer in a nearby park, we'll see how that goes though...

If ya got water, you can stay for a very long time. Its just food you have to hunt for or Fish for. Or bring 10 days worth of dryed food meals to help out.

Yes I think I will do this in 2009. I already have 3 places where i've built shelters the most in and they are great areas. I want to make a big camp somewhere soon because I want to use ym skills and work on new ones. I might actually look for a differnt place because I want to pick an area that has lots of big pine trees. They make a good roof from the rain and snow. We'll see what happens but yes I want to do this!

I'm planning on making a shed type of thing at my cabin. Gunna take the bark off the logs and notch them like the old cabins. Split some logs for the roof slats, It'll be great.
