"The Ultimate Survival Guide" - John "Lofty" Wiseman (Previously published as SAS Survival Handbook) Is a well put together and informative survival guide. Many different types of environments are mentioned and survival techniques for each are explained. Lots of snares and traps, different kinds of shelters, plant edibility tests, water gathering techniques, water purification, and even some first aid. I suggest reading this, or the previous title, book if you haven't. Probably all the same stuff you've read before in other manuals, but I learn something new each time I read it (3 times so far).

8/10 for me.

See, ya got me all riled up! So I went to Amazon and bought a copy.
While I was there I also got a copy of "FEASTING FREE ON WILD EDIBLES" by Bradford Angier. I seem to have lost my copy of it so another was in order.

I bought both books off of Amazon for $15.39 including S&H. I couldn’t find them that cheap on Ebay. Let us know if you find a cheaper place.

Wow this book is terrific. So much great info. It seems to fill in the gaps I have flawed in my skills, and answers many questions.

I'm only 40 pages in but I give it a solid 10/10

I just received my copy of it today. I’ve already read the first 2 chapters. There are no personal insights or stories to help remember things and make the reading a little more interesting but that’s probably because it’s packed with info from cover to cover. It covers more than other books I’ve read.
I did like the trick of tying cloths to your legs then walking through dew laden brush and ringing or sucking out the water collected.
The part on building a bow and arrow is something I might give a try too.
There’s so much information in this book that anyone, regardless of how much they already know, show be able to learn from this book.
Thanks for the recommendation Daffy; it’s a fine addition to my collection.

Yeah Tom I agree. Its actually a really hard book to read because theres so much info, your reading then your like "Wait what do I do?" So I defently will have to re-read it many times.

This isn't the exact book but Daffy was talking about, but he said there basically the same. I love this book, I actually think it's a little better than Camping & Wilderness Survival by Paul Tawrell.

To me this is the Ultimate survival guide for a few reasons:

1. It's compact (might fit in a bit cargo pant pocket)
2. Full of info
3. Detailed in the amount of ways to do things, and explains well how to do them
4. Gives you tools to make to make things easier
5. Even touches on first aid, color pictures of edible plants, color dangerous plants and animals, how to skin and dry, ect, tells you how to make flour from cat tails flowers!

I bought Camping and Wilderness Survival, Familiar Animal Tracks of North America and this book today, and if I had to have 1, it would be this one. But I do think all 3 are good.

that is actually the exact same book (content wise). The version me and troop have says at the bottom of the cover "previously printed as the S.A.S. survival handbook"
