So I got an idea... I got it from reading my guides to edible and medicinal plants

Well I live in a small town of Warrensburg (I only live CLOSE to Decatur) and we have a small town library, and the library is basically our "Commons Area", most people tgo through here a lot and there are lots of events going on there... they are small events anyways. So I was thinking with my newfound love for the wild, I could try to start an event called the "Taste of Wildlife", basically pick wild plants and show people all the different kinds of things they are useful for. Either that or make a wildlife event and show hot to make a quickie shelter, how to start a fire with a fire bow,

A couple ideas I had were things like

"Nature Salad", with things like rose petals, rose hips, dandelion leaves, pine cone seeds, etc
Pine/Spruce Tea
Dandelion Coffee
"Russian Asparagus" (Cattail shoots)
Various Cattail Parts
"Rose Petal Bandages"
Wild Grapes
Fire Bow fire
How to properly make a fire (the 3 steps, tinder, kindling and fuel, and the teepee fire setup)
Quickie Lean-To shelter
Proper A-Frame shelter
Making a signal fire (not a big one, I dont want to smoke everyone out)
Show people what poison ivy, oak, and sumac look like.
Identify certain trees
Basic first aid
What knives, axes, & saws are good
Proper use of knives, hatchets, saws & other dangerous tools
Whittling/basic crafting
Makeshift fishing
Making Snares/Deadfalls/Traps (NO ACTUAL KILLING!!! just showing what the traps should look like!)

Overall this is pretty ambitious but it is something I would like to do. You guys are all welcome to come down here and help out Laughing

Etc. But I do need more pics and guidance I dont want to poison anyone Laughing Laughing

Also I will teach wilderness ethics... by showing how "Cool" nature is, and when i cut trees or something to help with my shelter I will tell them to always re-plant some of the seeds. You know, little things like that.

Well you will deffinaly have to get some volinteers in place before anything gets set up, you could put up a flyer at the library looking for some volinteers. if you included other events dealing with nature you would probably see a bigger turn out, say fire making demonstrations and such. maby ask scouts of something like that in your area to join in.

Great idea. Start by doing alot of research on all plants in your area.
And Dougs idea of getting the local boyscouts club to help out, or get invovled with them.

How about fresh deer meat cooked over an open fire? Rabbit, squirrel, or even wild hog. Very Happy
