I thought of putting a milk bone on the end and having my dog go at it, but I decided it might actually injure her. Sad

The only part I made a mistake on is the slanted stick, it's a little too short and there isn't as much leverage as I'd like.

I posted this on another site but it fit here, too.

This is just from my personal experience and observations... but if you place the figure 4 mechanism directly under the deadfall there is a chance that the weight will either get hung up or redirected, by the vertical support, when tripped. I don't sink the horizontal post into the ground but on occasion have had it get caught. Anybody else experience this or is it my bad engineering skills. Please excuse the poor drawing.

1 - the fig4 directly under the deadfall.
2 - The tripped trap with the horizontal post hung up.
3 - Post placement prior to setting the trap
4 - Fig4 set with post out of the way.

I was bored by the campfire the other night so I made the mother of all figure 4 deadfalls.... any unsuspecting grasshoppers will perish under my skillfully constructed deathtrap!!.... moooaaah ha ha ha ha.....

Yes, I have successfully trapped with F4's.... although slightly bigger than the one I posted here... lol.

I've caught rabbit, squirrels, chipmunks, mice and even a fox snake once.... I didn't eat the mouse but I skinned it! I did eat the snake... if you're wondering.

Nice... how did the chipmunk, squirrel and snake taste? which one was your fav?

sorry for all the questions, I'm trying to prepare myself for what I might actually do next time I go camping.

The squirrels and the snake tasted the best... cause I caught those at home and used BBQ sauce and/or spices... lol. The chipmunks and rabbits were taken in the field and prepared with only salt and pepper added.... they were still good though.

Aww dude... You ate the squirrel and snake while you were at homE!? Didn't you have any chips or something in the pantry? haha jk, thats pretty cool. I just have to grow the cajones to catch one, skin it, gut it... eat it.
