Ruger is finally coming out with a pistol designed for concealed carry. But, instead of offering a compact version of one of their "P" series pistols, they have a brand new design: the LCP.
http://www.ruger.com/LCP/
There is also a new caliber, the .327 Federal, being offered in the SP-101 revolver. They will also offer the 4" barrel Redhawk in .45 Colt caliber. So many choices, so little money....

I really like the look of that LCP!

Not quite my cup o' tea for a handgun (I prefer Steyrs and Springfields for range work), but it is sweet-looking and looks like it would fill the niche well for a lightweight concealed carry.

I agree. I'd rather have a bigger pistol, say 40 S&W or bigger. Just a little purse gun.

It might be ok if you were wearing light clothing like shorts and a t-shirt or tank top in summer, but I still like my Smith & Wesson Airweight for that. But the LCP would be flatter, I guess.
What I really don't understand is why Ruger has NEVER offered a compact version of their P-series pistols. They've been making them since the mid 80's, and every one of their competitors offer compact pistols in 9mm, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP (and some others, as well). If I were in the business, I would at least want to be competitive. I just have to wonder what's up with that! I can only assume that they just don't WANT to offer compact versions of their pistols.
Now, that 4" Redhawk in .45 Colt....

That looks to be a great gun. Does it take standard 1911 clips?

Yeah it does, and I already had a bucket load of 1911A1 mags. I hope to break it in this coming weekend.

Those XDs are very nice pistols. I bought a used XD in 9mm late last year, it was a little rough, but still shot very well. I gave it to my dad to carry as a duty weapon when he works with the Sheriffs Office and he seems to like it as much as I did. I'm a Glock guy so I'm a little biased when it comes to pistols.
On a side note, I got my CCW in the mail yesterday. Nothing really changes for me, but hey It's cool non the less.

thanks troop, az, and freak. Yeah troop we did talk about those hot hands i was a member here before after les' site went down. I got a new computer and then i got real busy and never got online so i figured i would pop back in and say hi. Good to see your forum is still going strong.
AZ i have had my ccw for a little over a year now and now i have a gun to actually get some use out of the right to have the ccw. I love the gun, it is a little safer in my opinion than the glocks because of the redundant safety on it, but i know alot of guys with glocks, and i love shooting glocks to but it was a matter of feeling comfortable with it in the house with a curious 7 year old boy that swayed me to this gun.

Very true. I carry a Glock at work, and wanted the least amount of things to do should I have to draw it to engage a threat. Glocks with that hands down, with draw, pull trigger, bang. I just want to make sure that the gun I receive training on is the same thing I shoot. I love my 1911, but think that having eight rounds is a draw back when your life is on the line. I think you chose the best for your needs.

I picked up a XDM 9mm and it's a wonderful gun, I have also fired a friends .40 XD and there basically the same.
Did you buy it new? If you did and you purchased it between OCT and Jan 15th of this year you can send in for 2 free mags and a mag holster a really good deal as it's completely free. I sent mine in about 2 weeks ago, so hopefully any week now I should get my 2 free mags and the holster in the mail (hopefully before the new upcoming assault weapon ban that will make them illegal to purchase)
I still have the PDF if you have the receipt because you will need it along with the form from Springfield Armory to get the free stuff.
You got to love 19+1 in the gun, and 3 more mags of 19 each (for a total possible of 77 rounds before having to reload a mag). I don't think I will be under strapped for ammo while walking around. Now I just have to get my CCW but luckily NH is a open carry state so I carry it a lot, I just make sure to not have it loaded in my car as that's considered concealed carrying . Due to this most of the time I just keep the mags in the holster and hope if something happened I would be able to put the mag in before I got assaulted.
One reason I like the 9mm is there is so much ammo out there for it (I had 400-500 rounds before I bought the gun already). A lot of places sell out of .40 frequently but will never sell out of 9mm under most circumstances. Also 9mm is a NATO cartridge.
