The lens may even have coatings to block out UV and infrared light. He was using a white piece of paper which takes a lot longer to light Very Happy

Ya i saw the episode many times. I thought that the camera lens would make fire making easier, i thought that the multiple lenses would concentrate the suns rays even better Confused I know he said when he was at the river side, on the rocks, he said that the sun wasn't strong enough so thats why he moved to the open clearing where he said "theres a big patch of blue" and it looked very clear and the sun looked pretty strong. Smile

Well if you seen the episode many time, Why ? did you question why it took so long for Les to get a fire going ?.

{ A single magnifying lens will start a fire really fast }

It was likely the combination of Les trying over and over for success, misplacing his lens and the fact that it was indeed a camera lens that attributes to the time. I'd think a single magnifying glass would do better than a camera lens. turd's theory of the UV protection is definitely a possibility.

I tryed the Mag glass again, no fire but lots of smoke, I thought it was going to be easier than it was. Confused But oh well, I was going to try a bow and drill set today also but believe it or not there isn't any more wood in my backyard Evil or Very Mad No sticks or anything that I can use for a bow and drill set Shocked I can't believe it!
