if you want to know what you're walking by in the woods, you can read anything by this guy http://www.wildmanstevebrill.com/
Not the most professional site...but his books are great...nice guy too..I've met him during a wild edibles tour in central park. The book I have is this one: Identifying and Harvesting Edible and Medicinal Plants in Wild (and Not So Wild) Places...Signed copy for $23 is not bad! It isn't color, but the sketches are great.

Not worth it for the cards. I own them (someone bought as a gift)...not enough info and not enough plants. For twice that much, you get a huge number more plants (10-20 times more I imagine), huge quantities more info (the book has at least a page and a half of writing about wild carrots alone (since someone asked about them in another thread), a labelled illustration of a non-flowering plant and root, a labelled illustration of a flowering/seeding plant, and a labelled illustration of poison hemlock to help you distinguish the two...can you fit all that on the back of a playing card?), better illustrations, a break down by region and season, some nutritional content, preparation methods, medicinal uses (of certain plants), and limited recipes. His cookbook (which I also own signed) has an enormous number more recipes, but if you aren't equipped with a vegan-prepared kitchen some recipes may be difficult to get ingredients for.
