Well yesterday I was carving with my SRK, making my wooden knife. I guess the rumor is true. The SRK is ground at too wide of an angle. Even though it's really sharp it's not very good for taking fine shavings off of the wood. Since it's ground weird already I'm going to grind the main part of the blade now. How do you regrind a blade? What tools do you use?

You need to go slow & easy. Keep the blade cool.
Got a belt sander?

Have a belt sander but it's a hand held one. I don't have much for grinding. I have files, and sharpening stones.

I guess you could do it with a file, but it would take a long time.
I've never done it that way myself , so I can't say for sure.
That knife isn't really meant to carve though.
It's a heavy duty blade made for heavy duty work.
I'm not suggesting (MORA) that you buy (MORA) another knife (MORA) or anything like that.
But you might be (MORA) better off with something (MORA) else for carving.
I really can't reccomend any particular knife though.
Good luck with it.

Hmm, wonder what would be a good carving knife then?
Actually I already messed up my edge on the SRK for the f-ing lansky sharpening system. It needs a regrind anyway. I'm wondering if I should do it myself with a file or get it professionally done. I've done plenty of stuff with a file so I know it'll work ok.

Well I did refinish my edge, and it turned out pretty good. It carves a lot better than it did before though.

Anyone have some good links on sharpening knives, and grinding edges into blades? I really suck at both

I need some advice on a new folding knife. I really liked the M16, but it was only good for light work. I really like the look of the CRKT M1 Lightfoot, anyone have any advice for larger folding knives?

Benchmade has some well designed blue class folders, buck kershaw and victorinox all make good knives at a decent price.

cold steel ak-47 is a large folder. It has a wide blade, but not extremely long. The handle's kinda weird though, because it's big but really light. I'm pretty sure it's micarta.

The handle material on the CS AK 47 is aluminum.
Should be plenty strong, but maybe not so easy to use in colder weather.
The Buck 110 would be a good choice for a big folder:

The bushman doesn't have the best steel in it though. I'd say the Voyagers would be much better, and they aren't extremely expensive either. All I have to say about cold steel is don't buy from their site. They're way overpriced, so buy it elsewhere.
