Thats so cool, so your allowed fires in the boreal forest? Becuase the forests here in BC, most of them at least, have a "NO FIRE" policy. Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad I really want to do that, wat your doing. I dont really have many chances to do that becuase of that stupid policy Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

In the fall and winter I used to hunt and trap, so was pretty much out all of the time, either in tarp lean-to, or a line camp on the trapline 5' x 10' plywood shelter.
When mosquitoes were of no matter just a small fire and s/bag

Steph, sorry to hear that, and yes they do suck! I didn't lose camping gear in my last one but I lost a lot of house stuff which I then had to replace so it's always a pain.

Don't even get me started on the CDs I lost too...I was pretty bent about the camping stuff though, as you all can understand.

I can’t say I’ve done too much camping in the last 4 years or so. That’s about the time my camping buddy moved away and I went back to school for a few years.
Before that I was going backpacking, canoeing and mountain biking 1-5 weekends a month with a week long trip about once a year.
When backpacking I would go anywhere from 2.5-15 miles a day then a few more on a night hike after dinner. It wasn’t uncommon for the night hike to exceed the day hike in mileage.
I’d get off work on Friday, drive a couple hours to a state forest and depending on how I felt when I got there either sleep in my van until morning or just put the pack on and head out on the trail until I got to tired to go on. I would then put up my hammock tent, sleep until daylight and hit the trail again.
I have a computer program just to know when the phases of the moon occur and what the times are for moon rise and set. I would plan trips for a full moon that rises early enough to be over head from sunset to around 2a.m. That’s a pretty active animal time. I’d walk quietly with only moon light to see by. When I heard or saw something, turn on my flashlight for a good look.
I’d deliberately go out when the weather was going to be bad just to practice wet weather camping. I’ve slept in a hammock tent with mosquito netting on three sides when the temp was in the mid 30’sF. And it rained all night. I’ve crossed a bridge that was dry one day and knee deep under rushing water the next. I’ve hiked waist deep through swamps and river flood plains. I’ve run across poachers a couple of times and had a lost deaf girl wander into camp one evening.
In Florida the backpacking season doesn’t start until the weather cools off in October-November and goes until it gets to hot in April-May. One year I just didn’t want it to end so I just didn’t stop. I went on shorter trips and done most of my hiking at night. It’s also about the time I started carrying a cooler and got my hammock tent. Before that I used my A frame tent with a couple of battery operated fans hung from the center line.
So with regards to your poll, you don’t really have an option that fits me. As far as to what type of camping I like. The kind that’s chased away all my camping friends as being a bit too much for them. All that is except the last one, he moved away to be closer to his family in Arkansas. Before that he would pretty much go on any trip I would dream up without complaint.
I’m planning on moving to western Kentucky after I finish remodeling my house and sell it and he’s planning on moving there after I do because he’s tired of his family and misses camping with me. Sounds like next summer I can get back to what I really like doing and in new unexplored territory with an old friend. Life doesn’t get any better then that.

No kidding. Shocked

It probably rains more in Washington than it does in the Amazon Jungle. Laughing
